Clemson verbal commitment Richard Jackson created quite a buzz last weekend. Jackson hit a 64-yard field goal last Friday night that set a South Carolina state record. The Greer, SC product discussed how the kick came about Tuesday evening.
"It was wild. There was 3 minutes left in the second quarter. Our drive stalled at the about the 47. Coach Frost told me earlier in the week, he wanted points on our drives not punts, so he told me I might get a chance to kick some long field goals. When our drive stalled at about midfield they sent me out there. The snap was perfect and the hold was perfect, it was all I could ask for." Fellow Clemson commitment Michael Wade was the holder on the play. Jackson says it has been wild since the word got out. "Throughout the weekend and yesterday, it was pretty wild. Newspapers and a few websites were calling me to discuss it. Sunday night the local media started picking up on it, and then they were calling." Jackson made ESPN's Chris Berman's top ten plays of the week. "I missed at 12. I did not know before that I was going to be on. My mom saw it at 12 and my friends started calling me after they saw it. I actually saw it about three in the morning. It was wild seeing myself on Sportscenter. It is something you never really expect, but it was an honor." Jackson remains committed to Clemson, and it appears the other schools have taken notice of his commitment. "The schools that offered me are still there, but none of them are recruiting me hard. I am firm in my commitment to Clemson."
