Dabo Swinney among coaches in Top 25 ranking 'facing pressure'

CBS Sports listed ten coaches out of its recent Top 25 for the 'Power' conference group who are not necessarily on the hot seat, but are facing pressure. Clemson's Dabo Swinney was included in that group, along with Ohio State's Ryan Day and Southern Cal's Lincoln Riley:

"Clemson's recent slide has been something to behold. The Tigers went from six straight ACC titles to just one in the past three years and the former playoff mainstay hasn't sniffed a CFP spot in three seasons. In 2023 Clemson hit a new low when it lost four games for the first time since 2011 and posted its worst ACC finish since 2010, falling behind the likes of Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and NC State in the final standings.

"Whether it's Swinney's steadfast anti-transfer portal stance (though that seems to be softening a bit) or something else, Clemson hasn't adapted well to the modern era amid college football's myriad of recent changes. That being said, the ACC is wide open this year, and the expanded playoff offers the Tigers an open path back to the sport's highest level. On paper, Clemson's a competitor. It's up to Swinney to stop the bleeding."

Football coaches do tend to be judged on meritocracy and their results. Dabo recruits how he wants and chooses the coaches he wants. Now, the results have to follow to prove him right.

2022 - being one point away from a an 11-1 conference champion is considered sniffing the playoffs. This is just more portal lovers bashing Dabo,

Seriously, these guys don’t even watch football. We lost the last game of the season in 2022 that kept us out of the playoff, and when he says the portal stance is “softening”, is that because we took zero players this past off-season? Lol

Show me one coach who isn't "facing pressure" and I'll show you a complacent school. Northwestern, Syracuse, Rutgers etc their coaches don't face pressure because they're happy to get TV money and not invest in a program. At Clemson the standard is higher. This is why Clemson and FSU are looking to join programs that don't just show up with their hand out.

Now Brandon Rink joins the bashing of Dabo for not using the transfer portal. He didn’t have to post that article but chose to do so. Maybe he can join the ranks of use the portal or fire Dabo.

Hasn’t “sniffed” is pretty wild considering we were 7th in CFP poll in 2022 and would have probably been the 4 seed if we hadn’t lost to SCar.
