Brad Brownell was an elite coach. I kid you not.
Then got upset with a caller that disagreed.

Never have listened to that guy, but never hear much good about him. Some folks must love him I’m guessing.

I loved him years ago because he was the best at bashing the SEC. He also basked Tommy Bowden but since Dabo's been there he seems to have taken on the role of spokesperson for all the coaches. He kinda lost his luster after that.

What is the definition of elite? Brownell is the best we have ever had but compared to others, he is not top shelf bourbon.

Sorry, he is not close to the best coach we have paid. He may be the 4th or 5th best coach. (I am guessing you didn't know anything about Clemson basketball b4 the Big Brown L.)

I listened to him tonight he said that Brad is the best coach in the ACC. He is in the opinion business whether you like it or not. I know Brad is not as good as Tony Bennett. He steals Brad’s lunch.
I listen to him on the Internet I’ve always enjoyed him. I don’t understand the ding dong sidekick he has though. She contributes nothing. She couldn’t even pronounce Duquesne tonight. The Sweet Caroline bumper music is terrible. Maybe mix that up a bit.

Over Brads tenure weve averaged a NET in the high 60s or 70s.

Brad has two tournament wins ever and is currently around 40th in pay. He has ever single thing he needs to be an annual tournament participant and make runs more than once every 13 years. Just this year alone there are teams like Houston, Alabama, Auburn, Marquette, Creighton, Iowa St., Baylor, BYU, St. Mary’s, Illinois, San Diego St., Dayton, Gonzaga, and Wisconsin to name some just for this season alone. We’ll see how the season plays out from here, but anything short of a win or two in the tournament and a national ranking will be an abject failure with the experience and depth on this roster.
Bottom line is our average rankings are around 70 during Brads tenure. It’s silly to suggest underfunding is the cause of this. There are NUMEROUS teams doing more with less funding. And all the funding in the world will not help a man coach.
Here’s to a great finish and finally meeting coaching pay and program funding.

How many times in 13 seasons have we finished in the top 40?
Our average ranking in around 70 during Brads years.
We have EVERYTHING he needs to succeed. He is not lacking anything to succeed. So why hasn’t he done more?
You simply cannot even try to lie and say the 69 or so teams who have done better than us over Brads tenure has “less” than us. That’s absurd.

I don’t think Brad is elite but there are very few truly elite coaches. I do think Brad is a good to very good coach.

His record says he is statistically a somewhat above average coach, with an average finish dead in the middle of the ACC.
An ACC that no longer has HOF coaches like Dean Smith, or Roy Williams, or Mike Krzyzewski, or Jim Boeheim. Every program in the ACC except FSU (Leonard Hamilton, 22 years) and UVA (Tony Bennett, 15 years) has a head coach with less tenure than Brownell.
UNC's head coach had no prior head coaching experience. Duke's head coach had no prior head coaching experience. Syracuse's head coach had no prior head coaching experience.
Nine of the head coaches in the ACC have tenures of 5 years or less, including the HCs of all the teams ahead of Clemson in the ACC standing except UVA's Tony Bennet.

Rick Barnes was the best basketball coach Clemson ever had. Things got better almost overnight when he took over.

That he's never wrong and that he is a gift on tbe mic? Sorry, that guy makes me sick. He doesn't belong on upstate radio. I don't even listen to the ROAR in tbe afternoons on my drive home because of him. I click over and if he is out sick or on vacation I listen. As soon as I hear his screeching voice, I'm moving on! I long for the day that he is retired from our local radio!!
