Home after my Inspire implant…

Had been thinking about it and doctor said I was a very good candidate for it so I had it done. Have to wait 30 days for activation but I believe it will be well worth it. The surgery is around 3 to 3 1/2 hours. Puts you out of commission for around 30 days.

Let us know how it goes.

I am a physician and haven't had any patients do it yet. I know its gaining traction. I have sleep apnea and have tried a mask that didn't work for me so have thought about doing it. I've read hit and miss things but some swear by it. If you think about it please let me/us know how it goes for you. Good luck!

would do it since my Cpap does the job and I hate the thought of implanting something in my body without knowing for sure it would work. I couldn’t tolerate the mask either but the nasal thingys are okay

I currently have a BiPap which drives me nuts and I cannot use it. Have never found a mask that would work without making noises during the night. I would like to know more RE this.

Hope it works well for you. Please keep us updated on how it is working. I have used a CPAP machine for over 20 years and it has worked well for me. I really don’t think I could sleep without it now unless something like this could replace it. The CPAP is a bit of a pain to travel with.

APAP is good, but a pain, especially when traveling.

I worked on this technology (clinical research @ a sleep disorders specialty clinic) in 2010/2011 and all of our site's 7 implanted patients had very positive results (increase in overall energy, activity and subsequent weight-loss, etc.). So, good for you - should be a game-changer. For those of you that have struggled w/ the gold standard CPAP and mask, certainly something to consider. Good luck!

I would be interested to know how that goes. My Pulmonary Dr. said I am a candidate also but I did not like the idea of an implant?? Keep us posted on how it works for you.

A little update on the Inspire implant…

Will be getting it activated on Jan 3 so I will let you guys know how well it works for me. My oncologist is also curious about whether it will work or not. He has the same pulmonologist as me.
Everyone have a great Christmas and a very happy New Year. Go Tigers beat the Vols.

Will need to research this I have never heard of it. I have some breathing issues when I’m trying to go to sleep but I believe it is related to reflux. Good luck and hope all turns out well!

I just contacted my sleep Spector yesterday about this because I found out my insurance covers it 100%. Does it really put you out of commission for 30 days? I thought it was an outpatient procedure, but hadn’t dove deep into it yet.

It is totally outpatient but what they want you to do is not do anything that could possibly disconnect the wires to the bottom of your tongue. You will have an incision on your neck and right chest. Never had any pain, but the 30 days may be just my surgeon. He is very meticulous and doesn’t take chances. You can work if office job, but definitely no lifting and moving your right arm above your head. I felt great afterwards and still do except for the Covid I just contacted, but doing good with it.
