putting off because you think it will take too much time or be too expensive?
Well, our refrigerator has been that for me for, oh about 4-5 years, lol. It started with the water and ice dispensers stopping their functions. So, I decided to just buy a counter top water filter deal and use that instead of looking into getting the fridge fixed. Finally looked it up last year or so and saw that the actuators are relatively inexpensive and super easy to change. Then I forgot about it because I didn't want to spend the money.
This week, I said eff it and ordered them. Also ordered a new filter for it since I hadn't replaced it in years (obviously that probably isn't great for the ice, but since the dispenser was broken Idgaf.
Parts came today, replaced in 5 minutes. Also decided to level the fridge because it was terrible. Turns out, it has a handy little screw that you tighten on the front that raises and lowers each foot. I then noticed that I had not cleaned the vent on the bottom in probably forever. Cleaned out enjoy lint that would make the junge proud. Now, we have filtered water and ice from the door again, plus a clean and level fridge and more counter space after removing the water filter we were using.
TLDR; I procrastinated fixing a relatively small issue on my fridge for 5 years, now it is like new.

2 buttons (one for water and one for ice, link below). I knew that the function was there because the light still worked, you could still change the settings and ice was still being made, just not dispensed in the door. Did some googly and found the answer.
Parts around $220. 2 screws, 2 wires, done.

Just tell the rest of the family that if they don’t start putting water into the ice cube trays, after they use the ice, there will be consequences. You have to be firm but fair. They should respect you enough to follow your direction. If that doesn’t fix the little ice makers, then maybe you need to try military school or a new fridge with an automatic ice maker.

floor. Repair dude said that it was freezing up and overflowing, and a "duckbill" drain or something needed to be replaced. The fridge would have to be turned off for 24 hours to defrost and then call him back to replace whatever was messed up.
That was about 7 years ago. I wonder if the new homeowners ever fixed it?

Maybe but never with my fridge. We have a history.

On my previous excursion to TN I rented a place which had a black, side by side, Maytag fridge with cubed and crushed ice, water dispenser and a 1 micron water filter. Evidently the previous tenants had abandoned it. It worked well but the landlord refused to service it but chose to sell it to me for $25.
It worked perfectly for a decade. The filter head went out and I found one and replace it the day the replacement arrived. That's been two year so that old fridge and I have been married now for `13-14 years.
It never whines when I forget our anniversary and always performs its duties. I change the filter now and then. I owe it a new filter when G'vegas finishes flushing this water system. So far it has removed all the poison they use to flush county waterlines.

The plastic bucket that we get our creek water in has a small crack in it, so I just keep slapping some duct tape over it and walking back from the creek a lot faster to get the water to the house rather than walking all the way into town and buying a new plastic bucket at the general store. Plastic buckets ain't cheap!
