No mention of him in David’s article and I haven’t heard him mentioned at all.

He’s still here, competing with Overton for the slot while Amari is gone. Scott said he’s done really well so far the other day.
Go Tigers!

I've talked about this before, but my suspicion is that we're about to see a healthy dose of 10p - 4 wide - as our base set this year. Other than JC Chalk, we don't have a veteran TE and while Tony Elliott is definitely an 11p guy, like any good coach he adapts to the strengths of the personnel he has.
In this case what you'll see is two outside receivers and two slots. So the 2 and the 9 positions - the "outside" guys - are going to see a mix of Higgins, Ross, Ladsen, and Ngata, and the two "inside" or "slot" guys are going to be a combo of Overton, Powell, and TJ Chase, with Will Swinney probably getting some odd snaps in garbage time or relief as well. Swinney's already spoken to the fact that he likes to roll 7 receivers even in our usual 11p sets - 3-wide/1 TE - whereas in 10p I'd expect to see at least eight fairly consistently, and sorry, you know Will Swinney is going to play at least a bit. At some point later on in the year Amari Rodgers will return and I think you can add him to the inside receiver group as well.
I am kinda curious about the decision to move Overton inside. The coaches must definitely think he's without question one of the three best if they're doing that because with his size and wingspan he would seem to be a more natural outside guy and that's where he spent his first years at Clemson. Though he doesn't have the ability to stretch the field the other outside WR's do, I actually thought Overton was our best red zone receiver in no small part because he was by a fair bit our biggest and most physical receiver. Maybe the staff think he can consistently overwhelm nickel backs (who are usually a bit smaller) as well.
One thing I was reminded of is that with Trevor, all you've gotta do to be open is wall off and show him your numbers, and Trevor will put the ball on you, and Overton is probably our best wideout at doing that. He's also shown he's fearless in traffic and catching balls over the middle.

I agree. I think it comes down to Overton being too good to keep off the field with Rodgers out. Most NFL teams don't have the right DB's to cover 3 WR's that are 6'4" 215# so colleges will struggle. Plus it will give us 3 big blocking WR's and 4 big blockers when we go to 10P with Overton in the slot. DB's will be haunted by the thought of "is he about to block me or burn me?"
To the OP, Powell is competing for 2nd string Slot against Chase. I trust all those guys.

We probably will see a good bit of 10p - especially if the TEs don't grasp the playbook and perform as we need them to do. But - Scott has said that Jaelyn Lay and Davis Allen will play a lot and will contribute. He said that Allen's development has been the talk of summer. I also read that Lay looked good first day, but needed to speed up a little, so it's likely he needs to drop 15-20 lbs, which shouldn't be a problem if he gets worked hard.
We're talking about these 2 freshman TEs as if they're no good, but remember that Lay was ranked 3rd or 4th nationally and Allen was ranked 15th. That's not chopped liver - they'll get plenty of coaching and should be ready to play.

is enough talent at TE so we could run 12p..... run counter, let one TE go get the Mike and the other pull to the point-of-attack and blow up the hole. Instant smash-mouth in the power game.

He’s here but glad someone else was as annoyed by him showing up at our BB game wearing a UNC shirt and openly pulling for them. I think that is tacky. If he was a childhood Tarheel fan that fine—but he’s a Clemson football player, he should leave the shirt at home. I will have a hard time watching him this year.

Hard time watching him over that? Do you normally get emotional so easily?
