Cornerstone cafe in Florence and Kitty’s Fine Foods in Charleston.
Kitty’s is no more. Not sure about Cornerstone.

Closed now, but The Mouse Trap in Columbia was always good. Owner got to old but played for the coots in the late 50's.

Unfortunately it seems most of those places have disappeared except for inside gas stations and grocery stores.

This is a great list.
Another honorable mention is Clock of Greer on Poinsett St. It’s a diner, but somebody in that kitchen uses bacon like a flavor ninja on that meat n 3 menu…

There was a Harvey's between G'ville and Easley that was very popular years ago but likely no longer in operation.

A lot of people in R. Hill love the place. I finally went about a year ago and it was one of the worst meals I’ve ever had in my life. The meatloaf was just like something from the frozen food aisle. I also got a salmon patty on the side and ate only 2 bites it was so bad. The mac n cheese reminded me of a hot plate from a grocery store.

Brown's BBQ in sleepy old Kingstree. Not strictly a meat-n-three but it is a buffet with the usual suspects: collards, mac n cheese, candied yams, pilau, etc

The best way to judge the quality of a meat and three or bbq joint is to count the number of pickup trucks in the parking lot. The more trucks, the better the food. Bonus points for older trucks and two-door trucks. People who drive trucks know their food and those who drive older trucks and two-door trucks are experts of fine dining.

I still like Lizard's Thicket. They have multiple restaurants in the midlands area of South Carolina. My favorite meat there is the catfish. Vegetables are always good. We'll be eating breakfast at the Lexington location tomorrow morning with friends. Hopefully we'll be celebrating a Clemson victory over UVA. Go Tigers!!!

Anything that involves mustard, or God forbid mayonnaise, is not barbecue but is an abomination. Vinegar and pepper is barbecue

Most Lowcountry natives (including me) will disagree with you about mustard based sauce. It is the only sauce I want on pulled pork.

I was at Dillard House about a month ago. I remarked to my wife as we left that they had "fallen off" a bit. None of the wait staff spoke decent English. Our food was cold. And our fried chicken selection looked like a back and a broken leg. I asked three times for the waiter to bring the wife some white meat. He came back the first two times with more dark meat.
It was a Thursday. 12:45pm. There were three other tables occupied.

How about the Summerton Diner? Haven’t been in years but used to be real good.
Also always liked the chicken at the Chat N Chew in Turbeville. Haven’t been there in years either. Live in Tampa now.
