Alabama early-enrollee freshman simulating Watson in practice

Alabama freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts is simulating Heisman finalist Deshaun Watson during scout team action in practice this week according to multiple reports.

Hurts is an early-enrollee freshman that is just a few weeks out of high school football action but was a very highly recruited prospect out of Channelview, Texas. He was a 4-star prospect by all of the major recruiting services.

Time will tell if using such a young player to simulate the Davey O' Brien winner in Watson will work in preparation for Clemson's high-octane offense.

Alabama coach Nike Saban had the following to say about Watson during the media's teleconference on Monday.

"Well, you know, first of all, the guy is an outstanding player and does a great job of executing their offense, tremendous dual threat in terms of being a very good passer and rushing for over 1,000 yards this year, you know, really is a very good rhythm passer as well as a guy who can sustain plays and extend plays because of his athleticism and ability to scramble," Saban said.

Saban thinks that Watson is one of the finest quarterbacks that he has seen in quite a long time.

"Really is probably as fine a dual-threat quarterback as we've played against for a long, long time, and certainly does an outstanding job of executing their offense, and there's no question about the fact that he's an outstanding leader, as well, because you can see the way the players sort of rally around him."

The Crimson Tide held teams to 186 passing yards per contest which ranked 18th nationally this season.

Watson and Co. will play Alabama in Glendale, Arizona on Jan. 11 at 8:30 pm EST on ESPN.
