When was the last time ... ???

We have the opportunity to do something this year that almost NEVER happens.
Think about it ... or better yet, check the records.
When was the last time we won a season opener against a really good opponent, home or away? The answer is not particularly encouraging.
Here are some opening day wins over traditionally strong opponents. Pretty good, right?
-Texas A&M ... Nah, not really ... the Aggies finished 5-6 that year. -Florida St. in 2007? Nah, that Nole team was beyond pathetic. -Auburn in DV 2011? Nah, they were below mediocre when all was said and done.
Honestly, throughout history, we haven't had to face very many really good teams on opening day, but when we have, the results have not been too promising.
Opening game debacles against Alabama, Georgia, UNC, and Va Tech have been more the rule than the exception.
We have the chance to change history and to begin a new chapter coming up in a couple of months.
Go Tigers!! Beat those Dawgs (and everybody else)

The common denominator in all those loses is we didn't have a coach that knew how to get the team up for a big game. Dabo does, what did he do before the LSU game, he had about 5 or 6 good hard nose physical practices. I am sure that the Tigers are going to be more than ready for the pups. The leadership and accountability on this team is better than I can ever remember at least back to the Ford days...

I get what you're saying, but there are some good teams

whose wheels fall off after losing the 1st game. I think the Auburn teams never regrouped after we beat them the last 2 years. Before the Bama game, there was a lot of talk about a potential national championship run for us, but Bowden was never able to get the team going again.
However, you are correct, this group of Tigers has the chance to do something really special right out of the gate. If we beat Georgia, and then FSU, the hype will be huge and Dabo will need to work hard to keep our boys winning. Can you imagine going into the WB undefeated after losing 4 straight to the dirtpeckers? It will be one of the biggest games in the history of the program.

I agree this is a one of a kind year. Beg, middle, and end!

unfortunately, our NC hopes rely on the first game of the season with GA. Our ACC hopes lie with FSU but luckily we dont play them until the middle of the season. and South Carolina at the end of the year no need to say how much that matters period.

I actually don't think our NC hopes rely on the first game

Don't get me wrong, I believe we may have to go undefeated when looking at other national title hopefuls and their schedule. If the UGAy game were a loss, it would be much easier to overcome, especially when it comes to polls, if we finished the season with nothing but W and win the conference. However, if we were to win the UGAy game and the run the table on the rest of our schedule and then lose to USuC, I think we would be forgotten in the national title race.
There would have to be a lot of interesting things happen for Clemson to go to a NC game with one loss...

I have an old-timer's hunch that that LSU game might have

been the spark to light the fires not only of the staff and team, but of the Clemson Nation, as well. The fact that the one point win didn't reveal the actual stats was even more revealing.
The Georgia game will be a battle royal, but I am convinced we have the right staff, the right team and the right mechanics to win. It's up to the staff and team to apply the know-how to use those mechanics effectively. Thus, that it's our first game doesn't concern me...it will, also, be Georgia's first.

I was thinking of the 0-38 thrashing we took in DV in 1998. But, in checking I found that it was the second game and not the opener.

.....will we add "undefeated" and/or "national champs" to this list of accomplishments in 2013? We very well may!!
