Enough of these kids underperform, quit football, get in trouble etc. then these boosters will stop throwing these ridiculous sums of $$$ at these kids. I’m all for them making some cash but some of these NIL deals are ridiculous.

HA!
I liked the "is this the intent of nil?" comment.
HELLs no it wasnt the point! but everyone saw it coming and did nothing to stop it. This is just the beginning people. The insanely rich donors have nothing better to do with their money than to donate it to their alumnus in the form of millions of dollars to recruit players. Southern Cal and Texas schools will be top tier football programs in no time. So SoCal boosters buy a kid a house and give him $3mil but Reggie Bush still gets his Heisman stripped? People at the top economic status in this country have lost their friggin minds completely. Sucks for me being middle class.

Re: Unreal if true / if true, then beginning of end for CFB

The 'big money / big name' schools will end up ruining their own sport (which is also our sport).
If all the 'lesser schools' lose their marquee players to the 'big money' schools via the NIL, then the popularity of CFB to the alumni / fans of the small schools will diminish. TV / Cable / streaming viewership will, over the entire country, fall off significantly if the 'lesser school' fans give up and move on other sports-centric diversions.
As the ratings go down, the TV money that supports the conferences drops. Athletic facilities at schools get poorer (not maintained).
The overall quality of CFB players will decline as the majority of HS players will go to the 'lesser name schools' ... as is now the case ... but they won't develop as well since they will be going to programs which don't have the funding to develop them as well.
Overall CFB player quality goes down; the quality of the overall CFB goes down; the entertainment value of watching player quality decline lead to ever-poorer ratings.
This is the death spiral; CFB will become an also-ran sport. Thanks to the NCAA for not being smart enough or proactive enough to manage it.

I think you're 100% correct about the death spiral.
Unfortunately, since some money is the lifeblood, but too much money is toxic, CFP will be in its death throes before anything will be done to fix it.
Who is its governing body?
And frankly, if this death spiral takes more than 20 years, why should anyone care about fixing it anyway? If CFB lasts until 2042, it will have outlived gasoline-powered autos and all the coastal cities like Miami and Charleston. (So we are told.)
In short, this has become a me-mine-now world. Responsible people get shouted down.

The NFL has a way of equalizing via the draft and control via contracts. There have to be some controls put in place before chaos kills college sports. Any player with an agent has always been considered to have turned pro. Anyone with an agent negotiating to be paid should be required to sign a contract that is binding for an agreed-upon length of time and payment.

Precisely the issue. Even the NFL couldn’t succeed with the current NIL rules.

Failure by the NCAA (knowing NIL was coming) to put into place regulations and safeguards will ultimately be the ruination of college athletics unless they act swiftly.

Can we at least get the video games now with the actual player names as a parting gift?
Ah, nevermind. I'm quickly losing interest in what has always been my favorite sport. I will still watch every Clemson game, but that's about it.
