to slow down the Jack Smith prosecutions of Trump.
Let's not pretend there's a real legal issue at hand with this. The crimes that Trump has committed should be prosecuted in a court of law. Lower courts have dispensed with this nonsense. But SCOTUS conservatives - really, they're more radical than they are conservative - have slowed this down for the purpose that Trump will not face a jury trial in front of Jack Smith prior to the elections.
Mission accomplished.

Yeah because paying a woman to keep her mouth shut and sign a NDA then declaring that payment a legal expense is somehow fraud and “criminal”. Don’t lawyers usually draft the NDA’s? Legal Expense right there.

a shame it has to be confronted.
It's a valid question to ask can a President be charged with ANY crime if it's done as part of his duties as President. It's a real concern that that could be have a chilling effect on Presidential actions that could come at the expense of, for example, national security.
But Trump is suggesting blanket immunity to prosecution for anything. So, I suspect, the court is going to have to define where the POTUS is protected and where the POTUS is not protected.

negotiated down to a common sense equilibrium. SCOTUS will send it back down to the lower court for specifics and clarification.
It's actually something that needs to be defined. The fact that it'll take some time is what's grating axxes.

Agree 100%. I'm waiting for the decision before going down the rabbit hole on this, but I'm curious which criminal activities were supposedly as part of his presidential duties.

that if a President knows they have broad immunity it will embolden them to commit criminal acts (absolute power corrupts absolutely...)
I can't see how the court rules with anything than against Trump here. There's no textual argument for the broad immunity being argued so the republican judges should be against, and the liberal judges seem against it as well.
There's the argument I tend to think is most likely to happen which is that the court rules against the broad claim of immunity but kicks it back down to district to look at specific acts that may qualify. This could likely (if not already) result in delaying Jack Smith's case which many think is the point in taking this case at all.
