I wish we were a better team, but comments like this are stupid and ignorant.
Funny how all the haters come out of the woodwork after we lost to a ranked team in the last second.

We didn’t lose at the last second. We lost when we didn’t manage to take a lead while they had an 8 minute scoring drought. Iowa was hapless the entire game while Perkins was on the bench. We made it look interesting while he was out with his 4th foul, but didn’t do nearly enough.

You do realize being able to actually win close games

is often what separates good teams from bad and that winning is why they are ranked. A lot of basketball is how you perform and coach in those game critical situations. Yes just blowing teams out is good but what really separates you is how you perform in those key moments. constantly coming up short is why we aren't considered good from those on the outside. And how many years of coming up short and seemingly making no progress is enough. When is it expected that we finally get over the hump. You can play good teams close every game and lose by 1 every time but what have you really accomplished but a loss.

And, after 12 seasons and 6 games, we have some solid empirical data on Brownell’s performance in close games and it isn’t pretty regardless of opponent ranking.

My boss is a big basketball guy. He sent me this after the USuC loss.
Brownell's record in 2 possession games (6 points or less) is 50-86, 36.76%.

Nobody hates Brad. Tiger fans only want to win. Brad is not winning. The "haters" aren't just now coming out... they came out years ago when they realized THIS is our norm, i.e., not good enough.

They come out when we lose to the bad teams also. You must not have been around after the South Carolina game?
These posts are much less dumb than the “we are going to make noise in the tournament” crowd that comes out after we beat East Podunk Community College by 5 though.

Whatever!! Fill Littlejohn full of water and bring back swimming. Let's add water pool or maybe arena football. I support every sport at Clemson except for these basketball programs. PJ Hall wasted his career coming here. Our administration doesn't give 2 ##$$'s about basketball. Brownell is horrible. We aren't going to the tournament again. Make your March plans for something else.

Look 1st excuse. Wouldn't it be better and expected that Clemson is an ACC power and no shame losing to us? I mean the ACC is known as a basketball conference.

Please point to somebody "cooing" about this loss.
Funny how the overemotional children on this board come out of the woodwork tonight complaining about Clemson losing this game.
Sorry I don't lose sleep over a close loss to a ranked team. Cry more.

That was a ridiculous way to end the game by throwing

The ball! Brownell should fired and told to find his own way home for that set up alone.
They had time to dribble for a 3 from just past half court. Plenty of teams have made that should in 1.5sec! But to throw it was idiotic! Then the player has to make the catch, and back up to the 3 point line before he can make that shot based on where he threw it. Just stupid!
Past time for Brownell to hit the road...but that poor coaching decision to either call that or allow it to happen is enough for me. Hit the road, jack!

The Lunatic Fringe Clubhouse. Doesn't matter who the coach is. Lose a game. Fire!!! Let the season play out then you can start burning your torches. Until then, a little support, which is what the basketball team is getting now, would be nice.

We played a top 25 team to the wire, essentially without PJ Hall, and being victim of some absolutely horrible calls including Iowa’s last field goal where Schieffelin got pushed down by Iowa’s player for the rebound and putback.
We played our tails off and have nothing to be ashamed of.

There is no reason to be ashamed of this loss. These young men constantly play their tales off. There is a lot to respect about Brad Brownell. They just are not related to coaching basketball at a Power 5 level, and these young men deserve better.

to do with effort or character. At some point you have to feel bad about losing, however, and use that disappointment to bring about change that results in actually winning more of these games so that we don't have to rationalize losses while trying not to feel too bad about them. Instead, we should expect to celebrate more wins. It's about improvement over time that shows in the form of more wins and better results.

for bright spots or signs of hope. Way WAY past that phase. No more excuses or rationalizations; it's do or die, and tonight he was dying.
As I said we're WAY WAY WAY PAST looking for bright spots or signs of hope. After 12 years, at this stage of Brownell's career at Clemson, playing a decent team close is not NEARLY ENOUGH. HE HAS TO WIN. Now, if we win every remaining game on our schedule, or go on a nice winnning streak, or pull out a few wins later on against ranked teams, that's absolutely fantastic. However, any rational, sane person has to realize that Brownell's career at Clemson is in the coffin, and every game is either someone there to help and open it up and help him out, or it is just another nail in the lid. Tonight was a nail in the lid, and that's totally fair and resonable. Anything else would be something insane out of a comic book.
This is not on our kids and has nothing to do with them and their effort or character or any of that. In fact, it has little to do with Brownell's character or effort. While those things are essential, at this stage, it's all about winning and losing. He's got to produce, better than he has for most of his career here at Clemson. Another 6th or 7th place finish and no tournament won't cut it. More close losses to good (25th ranked) teams won't cut it. Last night, as every night will understandably be this year, was a test in and of itself, and last night was just another fail. Didn't have PJ at full strength, bad calls, our opponnent was a good team, we gave great effort, we have some guys that can play, we are young and have some potential, blah blah blah blah blah, it doesn't matter, no matter how legitimate; all of that meant something in years one, two, even six or seven maybe ... but not now. That all became meaningless a few years back when we are talking about the state of Clemson basketball and it's future.
