Serious question, and there is no other way to ask it without it bashing Kirby

Smart and Georgia. How could Stetson Bennett go through an entire EXTENDED career in college, winning Nattys, and then, suddenly, when he gets to the NFL, he's got such a problem with alcoholism that he is missing YEARS of playing time? We make jokes about Georgia on here all the time, but do they REALLY have that little amount of oversight on their football program? I never was a Bennett fan, but this is truly a bizarre situation.

I don't know anything for sure as it pertains to Kirby Smart or the program at Georgia. I can infer a few things based on the Bennett situation as well as their horrible graduation rate. It would appear, based on the things I can see, that Georgia and Kirby care about one thing and one thing only and that is winning.

That's a fact!
I'm more proud of what Clemson has allowed Dabo to build for the simple fact that football is over after college for most college athletes.
I work with Jordan Leggett from time to time as he sells corrugated boxes with International Paper now. And when he was scoring TD's for the Tigers I was certain that he'd have a longer career than Dwayne Allen but that wasn't the case.
The same is true for most college athletes on a football scholarship. It's a good thing that when Jordan Leggett was in the program he went through the P.A.W. Journey and got his degree.

Clemson didn't merely allow Dabo to build our program.

Clemson helped and assisted in that endeavor greatly.

You must be unfamiliar with addiction.
It could have very well be the oversite and coaching that that kept his demons in line.
Having a heavy drinking habit in a small college town with all eyes on you is a lot different than being in Los Angeles.
Also, save the judgement. You have no idea what type of personal trauma this guy could have experienced in his life.

I can see why he may have an addiction given how hard his life must be.
You know superstar athlete, Van Wilder College experience, Millions thrown at him.
I bet he had women throwing themselves at him too.
Poor guy. How hasn't anyone noticed his cries for help?

That is shallow outlook on life. I hope no one in your family has troubles with addiction because you clearly aren't one who would care.

Now who's assuming I haven't had to deal with it.
I have plenty of close friends and family that have struggled with addiction. I even came close myself. Rest assured its typically a dopamine regulation issue and pu$$y therapists have told them that their addiction is from past traumas.
That's a SCAPEGOAT, unless they are currently dealing with the trauma to escape the pain. Life doesn't stay miserable unless you want it to.

She probably meant it in a loving, constructive criticism sort of way. She's helpful that way.

Well, the obsession JK has with anything that mentions Dabo or the Clemson football program might make him sympathetic to those types of issues. Maybe there should be an intervention…

The nature of addiction is that often those who have them conceal the addiction from everyone. I suppose some have never understood what is meant by a closet drinker. Then there are functional alcoholics who are able (at least for a while) to function as normal so no one sees that they have a serious problem. I have a nephew like that and it did not seriously surface until his wife passed away.

Bennett was of age. Kirby has no say on whether or not he's served. Did they tie the A&M coach to Johnny Manziel's actions? Bennett made the decision every time he picked up the bottle, not Smart. Addicts function everyday in society and often seek others to blame their problems on. They don't need our help.

especially when life's demands on them increase (e.g., the stakes are higher). For people with a predisposition for substance abuse, this can cause them to lean more heavily on their coping mechanism of choice.
It's not unreasonable to think that Stetson Bennett's substance abuse issues have progressively worsened over time. It's a pattern that frequently happens with addicts, and the increased pressure he's been under in going from college to the NFL is a reasonable trigger.

How much responsibility do you lay at Dabo's feet for Watson's apparent addiction to hookers?
