Y’all need to watch/read about the Ole Miss spring game. Tug of war, dunk contest, hot dog eating contest, obstacle course. But don’t worry, there was some actual football…7-on-7 football that is. What an absolutely embarrassment

Brilliant move by Ole Miss for recruiting purposes. I wish we could combine the two to some extent. I would love a game/scrimmage like we had this past Saturday but between quarters and throughout the entire day have fun games like that. Why not a dunking contest or a game of horse? Wouldn’t that be cool to see Dabo playing some basketball? A hot dog eat contest? That’s brilliant!
Don’t get me wrong. I still want a game (it’s valuable film for the coaches and valuable experience for the players) but people start to tune out and even leave in the second quarter / “half time”. I think if done right you could correctly mix in some stuff like this and make the day more fun for the non die hards.

Dabo likes to use the spring game as a chance to let the players, especially new players, experience Death Valley with the crowd involved. Although it is only a fraction of the game day environment, it still insures that the first time these guys run down the hill with a crowd in the stands is not an actual game. He has been very outspoken about the fact that there are no preseason games or intramural-school scrimmages to help the team prepare for game 1. This is one thing he can do to somewhat simulate game conditions for the new kids. I don’t see him changing this any time soon.

Why? Spring games have never been games and should be a fun reward for the players. This may set a tend away from the boring split squad games that mean nothing.

You seem to be an outlier thinking it was an embarrassment.
It is the most meaningless "game" possible. Why not make it more fun for players, fans, and coaches?
People forget the point of sports is to have fun

Meh…the Gamecocks have been doing this during regular season games for years..not that original…
I remember one year they dressed up that DeMasi kid as a QB….hilarious …such cut-ups those Gamecocks…

9:00 surplus sale. 11:00 - Spring soccer game vs Duke 12:00 - Tennis team practice open to the public 1:00 - Spring game 3:00 Baseball game vs Louisville.
This is the way it should happen every year.
With softball season in full swing - throw a gymnastics intersquad meet...Turn it into a full day.

Why is it an embarrassment? Would you rather interact with the players, coaches, other fans or watch a glorified practice? Why not even let the fans throw passes to the WRs during the 7on7, they may find a 2 star QB that got over looked 30 years ago. 🤣 On the other hand, there are some here that want to believe the spring game is an extention of a Clemson vs ND game.
Believe me the coaches know who's who before they show up to the spring game.
