Just how big of a "Collective" does Ohio St and FSU have?

I would have thought that Bama would have just as deep of pockets as these football factoroies!
Seems to me that it is better for athletes to stay in "COLLEGE" and get paid instead of going to the NFL! Heck, the Miami TE got a 9th year, he might stay there until he gets social security, I saw where another got approved for a 7th year. So to say these are students is a farce as well as a bald face lie. I don't think there are many gullible enough to believe this tripe.

Alabama does not have the pockets of the big players.
The big players now....
Texas (Oil $) TAMU (Oil $) OSU (Shear number of successful alumni) Oregon (Nike $)
among others. I'd watch out for Maryland (Under Armor $), Penn State (See OSU), Michigan, and Oklahoma as well. Georgia is probably OK. I think Florida State is a paper tiger in this game.
I think at some point the payers will need to be broken off from the poorer programs- like Clemson and South Carolina.

UGA has a very big and rich alumni base. And no competition within their borders

T. Boone Pickens was their biggest supporter, but he's dead. I'm sure they still have $, but not sure where they rank. Above Clemson in NIL $, for sure.

Can’t speak for FSU, but Ohio St, Ga, the Texas schools, SoCal all have much bigger alumni bases and much richer alumni than Clemson or Alabama. It’s like the Yankees/Dodgers vs the Pirates.

Not sure USC Alumni are as interested in football success as some of the other big schools.

Ohio State and Texas are the only schools that brought in more athletic revenue than Alabama in recent years, but NIL is another story. Alabama's NIL efforts are underdeveloped and underfunded compared to their rivals. They'll need to step it up now that Saban is retired.

Everyone thought NIL would go to just a few superstars but it will keep midlevel players employed. The Miami TE is not NFL talent. He either goes to UFL/spring league and makes $70K hoping to get noticed or he stays at Miami getting $100K hoping to get noticed. This is exacerbated* by the COVID eligibility extensions.
*For Coot English majors, Exacerbate is a verb meaning to make something worse or more severe.

The Miami TE is a 3rd-stringer with a total of 231 receiving yards in his college career. I doubt he's getting much NIL money. I bet he just enjoys the college life.

Always heard that was normal procedure back in those days? Seems like chump change in comparison to what we are talking about now. Every team could afford to give a kid a tv set but now you have many schools blocked out from ever being serious contenders.

I'm sure it was normal procedure back then for a lot of top programs, just like buying players with NIL is normal procedure now. Danny's salary was also chump change compared to what coaches are making in 2024. There's a lot more money in the sport now.

Household income in the 80-90k range? IDK where you're getting your data, but avg hh income in SC is closer to 40-50k than anywhere near 88,500.

Why would a billionaire live in Ohio? I assume that is just for appearances and they live someplace nice.

Since most are no longer there for an education, why not let NFL players play in college?
