Let's run a test:
"17 Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, 18 but save for yourselves every girl who has never slept with a man."
Do you think this is wrong?

That wasn't the point you made. You suggested religion left people confused regarding sex slaves. I'm curious who you're talking about. I ask who is confused about this? Who do you know, religious or non-religious, who has suggested to you they've had an internal struggle on whether it's okay to own a sex slave?

I don't know to what degree I am or or not "caught up." I do see that you seem to require quite a bit of people here. You routinely ask people here to defend their positions and offer evidence for their beliefs or faith. In this case you've suggested that something within religion has confused people about this particular issue. This isn't some ongoing debate within the church, like infant baptism or transubstantation of the elements of communion. I'm unaware of any confusion or debate among denominations about sex slaves. I'm curious about how you arrived at this conclusion.

I'm plenty caught up. This isn't about a bible verse or even what I think. It's about you making a claim that religion confuses people about this specific issue. If I or anyone else posted "the disciples saw the risen Christ," or "God flooded the earth," or "Jonah lived in the belly of the fish," you would be here demanding "proof." I ask you for an example ("evidence" you might call it) of just one person you know of who is confused about this issue and you can't.

I'm not an Old Testament scholar or theologian so I can't parse this. I suppose if I were in fact confused by the issue of sex slavery (as you suggest) I could jump to some commentary which might shed light on it. Then, I could offer you what some expert said about it, but we both know you'd reject that. Fortunately, I'm not confused by this verse. I don't read it and begin to question whether I or someone else should have a sex slave. I don't know anyone who is confused by this - and neither do you. Rather than just owning the fact that you posted something with zero evidence to support it (you're a big evidence guy, remember?) you want to suggest that someone who doesn't offer an explanation for the verse or cannot offer an explantion you'll accept must be confused by it.
I won't hold my breath waiting on your verifiable evidence that this verse has introduced confusion among Believers.

This confusion is evident right here: you won't call a spade a spade.
>I don't read it and begin to question whether I or someone else should have a sex slave.
You are also confused on what my post even said, not surprising though.
>Rather than just owning the fact that you posted something with zero evidence to support it
You just posted more evidence of the confusion, thanks for playing.

What I'm confused about, at this point, is what you're even talking about. You're free to suggest I'm confused about your post, just lack understanding, or are somehow lacking in knowledge. What you're clearly not going to do - because you can't - is provide any evidence this verse has confused anyone (except maybe you).
Since this is going nowhere, I'm checking out. You're free to take the last shot.

Yes, this is obvious.
>What you're clearly not going to do - because you can't - is provide any evidence this verse has confused anyone (except maybe you).
You have already provided this evidence, you won't say that the bible clearly says what it says.

Okay, so I'm not done....
I'm not mad. I just realize this is pointless. Just like exchanges you have with people about belief and faith. At some point, somone has to realize the exchange is at a dead end.
The bible says what it says. I can't explain it all but that doesn't leave me confused. This is the best I can do. Now, I could ask for your "eveidence" but we know there that leads. So, I'll quit (for certain this time) and you can think of this as yet another example of how your wisdom and wit exposed the anger or fear of others.

basically, dawg, when the bible says something you like, it says what it says. When it clearly says to kill everyone except the virgin girls and keep them for yourself, suddenly, your confused and need a theologian to tell the skeptic what it actually means.
THAT is the confusion i'm talking about. I don't think you are confused on whether you should own a sex slave.

This passage is not written as a set of moral laws. It is what the Israelite army was commanded by their leader to do in bible. Yes he attributed it to god. A lot of people attribute things to god.
The Israelites had been slaves in Egypt, escaped, and then were preyed on by the surrounding nations. When they grew strong enough they wiped some of them out. That's how the story goes anyway. Can you blame them?

But I know you don't actually read responses.

I’m just giving you exactly what you want. You just didn’t expect it to come from me.
What am I being dishonest about? That the Israelites were commanded, in the same book by the same person you are quoting, to treat foreigners like they want to be treated? Do I really have to go copy and paste that for you again?
We both know what you did here. You took one verse out of context and tried to bash an entire demographic of people based on it. And when I simply pointed out an alternate view point you acted like a #######.
Bravo sir. Carry on…

It actualy simply doesn't work:
how do I know?
7Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
I did as described, I asked, sought and nothing was found and no door was opened. So, clearly not true.

I don't believe you. I think you are just making all that up, that you have followed anything the bible teaches. Prove me wrong.

You notice you don't call any of the pubs or dems evangelicals in the politics forums, including yours truly, this is just something religious people do when you talk about religion.
IT's pretty funny actually

It's about equal to those who flew planes into the towers.
I wonder if they'd die before denouncing their faith in nothing? Maybe someday they will get the chance to testify of their confidence in their intellect to some supreme being.

lol, science says "the moon will eclipse the sun on this date decades into the future" and lo and behold it does.
It looks like science actually shows up. It requires 0 faith, it has evidence of it's predictive power.
It's how we are communicating right now.
Religion is people like you just claiming things and then nothing happens.
