Sport at Clemson, what would it be and why?
I'll start first.
Men's basketball.
It has never been competitive in the ACC. It is akin to Wake and Duke in FB.
Take the money and use it for other sports. Women's gymnastics seems to be as popular as men's basketball and I could see us dominating the ACC in that sport.

Well they tried to eliminate track and field but that went over like a ton of bricks, plus it’s our long forgotten WR speed portal. I don’t really know why any of them need to be eliminated, football isn’t hurting for funds for anything. If you don’t want to care about a sport then maybe just don’t watch it?

It is the mis-applied interpretation of Title IX The law says equal opportunity The application ends up equal numbers Football is unique There is no viable female alternative in interest, revenue generation etc Football at most schools funds everything else except basketball The application should be to remove football from the equation. Mens tennis / womens tennis Mens golf / womens golf Women's volleyball/ mens wrestling Baseball / softball Etc etc

I would like to eliminate the Sport of frantic postings and bashing of Clemson on TNet while the game is being played.

other than football. And when Clemson is in the top 20 its some of the best sport atmosphere's at Clemson (at least used to be.) I don't know what its like today but back when T-Mac and Big O and those boys were ranked #2 in the country and you had Maryland and Duke and UNC coming to littlejohn and that place was full you could feel the weight and the stuffyness of all those fans cheering at the same time. It was awesome! Plus it doesn't take all day. You can go to a game as a student and still get all your studying done for the test the following day. It was a great student/fan experience.
But that's back before cellphones and the student body wasn't all nerds and people really followed clemson sports and it was fun. Back when the students were under the basket and it was hostile and obnoxious. It was great.. miss those days. Now the environment is more sanitized and corporate. Students are more worried about video games and taking selfies i guess b/c it seems the players have to continually tell the fans to make noise..its like..what happened....?

Duke's student body is much nerdier than Clemson's but that doesn't stop them from having a "hostile and obnoxious" environment for basketball games. Clemson students just don't care about basketball for the most part, or maybe Brownell's 14 years of mediocrity are to blame for the lack of interest.

think though that it was much easier to be tourney bound back before the expansion. ACC used to get 8 or sometimes 9 out of 12 teams in the Tourney back before that happened. Now we were in 5th and were looking dicey as to if we're outside looking in and that with 15 teams. Now we're 7th and its probably not looking so good. BAck before the expansion Brownell would've been in the majority of his seasons. I went to school during the Shyatt years... there was way more low quality coaching back then, so i've seem what bad is, up close and personal.

Men's basketball is the 2nd-biggest revenue generator. It already funds other sports.

How can we subsidize a sport where, as Frank Howard said, "You sit on your butt and go backwards"?

Women's basketball. I saw some report about Missouri where in 2019 they lost more than 3.8 Million dollars on Women's basketball. Thats 3 or 4 elite players in the portal.

…contemplate for several years as to whether there is any interest collectively across the alumni and fans to field a MBB team that COMPETES, and I mean, seriously COMPETES with the rest of the ACC.
Give the “frustration factor” that we have gone through the past 40 years a rest, a” cooling off period”. I for one would welcome not having to listen and watch this insane attempt at playing basketball by Clemson athletes for at least 5 years. Maybe it would make me appreciate what was lost by stepping away for awhile.
If they decide to give it another run in 5 years, great. The 5 years of cooling off will build up a nice enthusiasm for the return of the sport to Littlejohn.
And NO, the teams that Clemson has put on the court are NOT seriously competitive. Ask yourself, how many years have you looked back on a season of Clemson basketball and said to yourself, “wow! What a great season that was!”
