Do WRs or any RBs have speed? The fastest guy on the field now seems

to be TB or Stellato, but do any of the WRs who were hurt, red-shirted, or incoming have game-breaking speed or "able to take the top off of a defense" (one of my least favorite descriptions in sports)?...Wesco, Hanifin (sp), Johnson, Williams, Turner etc..??
Likewise, how about a running back? Shipley and Mafah are a good tandem, but neither is a burner.
Dabo says they can all run, but when we have something like TWO plays over 50 yards for an entire season, I wonder if he's right...
Any track speed on the team? Looking for some positives....

Next year adding Turner and Wesco give us speed. Moore is fast enough too.

Turner may have straight line speed, but I haven’t seen him show any athleticism or ability to make a defender miss. UK’s WR #7 would be great for Cade. That being said, I am encouraged to see what a healthy AW0 and TB6 can do together with an improved Randall and Briningstool getting even better. Wesco and Moore showing up and being a factor would be icing on the cake. Stellato and hopefully Turner will be effective players also.

I have seen Turner wide open on a bunch od deep balls though. He stretches the field. He was just raw.

I don't think Wesco or Moore have the kind of speed you are talking about. But neither did Nuk Hopkins. He just knew how to run routes, get open, and fight for the ball. I noticed that several of Georgia's receivers caught ball yesterday that they really had to fight for. I hope that is what Wesco and Moore bring.

So you think Dabo is lying? Are you ready to line up and race these guys you say are not fast. How fast does Will Shipley have to be before He gets credit for being fast? Obviously faster than 4.4. The offense is running towards players who are also fast and who have angles on them. Clemson players are fast!

showcase the speed... If Nate Wiggins would have played offense, then he would have been the fastest guy, no doubt.
If we do have speed, then we are doing a really poor job getting the ball to them in space.
I like Shipley, but if he has 4.4 speed, he would have housed several runs this year, including the long kick return in the Gator Bowl.
And...not saying Dabo's lying...just embellishing!

Well every time He runs a 40 yard dash He times at 4.4 He is really fast and you could see it on the kick off return yesterday. Our running backs get hit the time they touch the ball. It’s amazing that they have produced like they have.
Cade Clubnik is also fast and should run much more than He does.
Y’all act like people running 4.0 and 4.2 are very where but Clemson and it’s just not so. Very very few people run faster than 4.4.

Cade may be fast when he only has one thing to think about, running in a straight line. But when in a game he is very slow. He has been caught from behind, behind the line scrimmage, by lineman many times this year. He maybe fast but he is not quick!

Him getting sacked has nothing to do with speed! It has to do with blocking or staying in the pocket too long!! Throw the ball or run!!

Cade is not quick. He gets caught trying to run when the pocket collapses way to often. Hopefully that improves next year.

Ship is pretty fast. Mafah is fast for his size. Rb is not an issue at all. We just don't have a tall, fast, deep threat. It's not like Mike, Tee, and Nuk were all super speedsters. I mean Cain was fast, Scott and Rodgers as well but I wouldn't say they were faster then Brown or Williams are.

Just because Dabo says they can run, he's not saying they can outrun opposing players. And the Tiger speedsters may really be fast in straight line running, but not so fast with obstacles in the way.

Not putting hopes on true freshman. Put hopes on Turner, two true elite frosh, and everyone else we have being maturing. I think we will be absolutely stacked at WR next year.

Walt says Sammy Brown is faster than Bryant and Wesco, and he’s a 230lb defensive punisher.
Clemson offense has a long way to go to climb to the sustained caliber of our defense…

Sammy ran a sub 11 100 meters in state finals. That’s elite speed.
Love Ship and hope he comes back but if he runs a 4.4, he’s the epitome of track speed versus game speed. Ship does not have break away speed. Sat in the stands last year and watched him get walked down on what should have been an easy TD.

Same thing on Friday. Many kick returners would have made it to the end zone on the route he took. He got run down again. Same with Mafah. The difference is that Phil has gigantic strength and can overpower many defenders. Ship can't. Wil is a jack of all trades, but master of none.

Based on watching other games all year and comparing to the lack of "big" plays we had, the answer is no. If you don't have anyone who can run by the defense, you have to throw underneath and that is what we have done. Coaches design plays around their players and even without great speed, we would have still had a 10-11 win year is we could have held onto the ball.

Deep routes requires time for the play to develop. The speed of the WRs is not the problem, it’s the OL. Trusting Luke will address the issue this spring

unfortunately, he barely played with the injury. Brown can fly, but he's the only one we had on the active roster so teams accounted for that. Tink Kelly can run. At RB, the freshman coming in can fly, and Haynes has a burst. But as far as track guys, have we ever really had them other than Spiller, Sammy and ETN?
None of Williams. Tee or Ross had 4.4 speed, yet they were deep threats. Same for Nuk. Other than ETN, we've never had a breakaway back. Gallman certainly wasn't. Long runs are more often dependent on WR blocking, which has been poor the last few years with injuries and inexperience. Long throws on protection and a guy that can go get the ball.

but when you look at the Dabo era, just a handful of true burners, at least on offense. Speed is great, but we need playmakers to emerge. Ford is an excellent example of a guy with blazing speed who made some plays but wasn't a true playmaker. Mike Williams ran a 4.6 but was a playmaker. I think Tee was in the 4.55 range. Ross was no speed demon.

Sorry to disagree, but through the years Clemson has had multiple players that were fast. Terrence Flagler and Kenny Flowers were both sub 4.45 guys. Jerry Butler was clocked at 4.29. We know Spiller ran 4.28 at the combine but forget that he was much slower than Jacoby Ford who was an alternate in the Olympics and has been timed at 10.1 in the 100 meters. Spiller's best was somewhere around 10.26. Oddly, Terry Allen was timed at a pedestrian 4.5 coming out of high school and after three years was timed at a 4.38 prior to the draft - very unusual but right there with ETN type speed prior to all the knee surgeries. Not to mix apples with oranges but James Trapp was on the field at DB around the Jacoby Ford era and was timed at 10.14 in the 100 meters. So Trapp and Ford were in fact world class sprinters that parlayed that foot speed into NFL careers. I know I am missing some - the talent well ran deep during the Ford era and I can't remember them all.

The RB we just signed, Eziomume, appears from his film clips that he can outrun people to score.
Granted, it's high school film, and it can be hard to tell the type of competition/skill. Maybe not ETN speed, but it looks like EZ can score on long runs. That's been missing from our offense.

I think people on this board are mistaking downfield playmaker ability for speed. Clemson is missing the guys who have the high point ability more than anything in this offense. I think Moore and Wesco will immediately provide the ball in air skill set needed to force 2 deep safeties which will open up the run game and underneath stuff for guys like Brown, Stellato, and Williams, those 3 guys are yac guys and not the guy who can go downfield and box out a defender for a tough grab.
Shipley is a 4.5 to 4.55 guy from what I can tell, that's plenty fast enough. Mafah probably a high 4.5 low 4.6 guy.
Brown is a mid 4.4 guy, Stellato was laser timed in the low 4.4s in high school, Williams looks like a 4.5 guy, and Turner to me looks like a mid 4.4 guy.
There is speed it's specific skill sets that are missing. That's jmo.
