I went on a sort of tear a year ago or so before the pandemic and the best I had in that run around the state was Maryland Fried Chicken on Ribuat road in Beaufort SC.

Any lady in that town over 70 will make you better chicken than you can buy in a restaurant.

Because there's one less chicken in the bed with them that night.

visit. It was about 150 degrees outside. Anyway, they had no running water. The had a hand pump at the kitchen sink and an outhouse that I did not go in. This was about 1980 or 81. She looked like she could eat a few chickens.

the Krispy Krunchy Chicken in Richburg, SC was always killer chicken. There always in gas stations and never free-standing that I've ever seen, usually a Shell station but DANG good fried chicken. Any time we were headed to an event that took us down I-77 we stopped and got it. I don't think it's there anymore but there is one up near Concord, NC still. There was one in Rock Hill for a while but it was never any good.

East Blvd. in Charlotte is consistently mentioned up there with Price's Chicken Coop. I think it's one of the best kept secrets in the city and people swear by it. It's in a Shell station, I believe. It's close enough to Price's that I always go the few extra blocks but one of these days I'm gonna have to try it. One thing is certain...the gas station chicken will have a better chance to survive the pandemic than restaurant chicken will in North Carolina, given that their governor's mandates are far more stringent than here in South Carolina.

Three or four Marlboro 100s and you no longer smell like cooked grease.
