...ether. Good work. Keep it up tnet! Many of us are thrilled with tonight's win without calling people names nor denigrating the coach. Just happy we won. Isn't that enough?

for most of my years, I've found myself really getting into our games this year with nearly the same gusto for standing, jumping, clapping, swearing as I do football.
When Ian slam dunked the ball last night, I leapt out of the chair, yelling, "Take that, you ......!"
As a student in the 60's, I did attend most of our games in Fike and in LJ, when it opened in December 1968, my senior year. But the passion for the sport vis a vis football just wasn't there. Now, I find myself thinking, "What our Clemson program needs is more commitment from alumni and fans to show our admin that basketball is important and needs our wholehearted backing!"

That is what is disappointing. I have season tickets and we go to the games barring being out of town.
It's sad how many seats, especially good seats go empty.
If you're in the area and don't have tix, get some for the home finale with Syracuse to support these guys.

He is a cantankerous and bitter old man that will not grow up. He continues to throw insults at the fans all the time.
I graciously give his "Lunatic Fringe" posts a RA flag each time he posts one. Of course, I have to unhide my Ignore list to do so. Apparently, I am not the only one since his post last night was removed.

I love that they're winning. I love that they won at UNC again. CBB gets credit for those wins that no one else ever managed.
I still think 14 years of mediocrity by Brownell is not offset by one good season, where his "best team ever" has lost 4 home games, mostly to teams ranked well below us having blown large leads late into games.
It certainly appears that NCAAT is a virtual certainty for Clemson at this point, and I'm thrilled.
Doesn't mean that I want Brownell to remain as the head coach. Fourteen years has been ample time to demonstrate his worth, he has averaged a 7th-place finish in an expanded ACC, unbalanced schedules, and devoid of HOF coaches that once plagued us (K, Roy, Dean, Jim, Gary, ...). Inconsistency is his hallmark. He should have resigned after last year's NIT from the utter shame of how he blew that season.
Two of the teams ahead of us are led by men with zero head coaching experience prior to their current jobs, and who have tenures under 3 years. One went to Final Four in his first year (actually, the championship game), the other won the ACCT in his first year.
In 14 years at the helm of Clemson, Brownell has never won the ACC regular season, never won the ACCT, never played in ACCT championship game, has lost two NIT first round games (probably due to the disappointment of not making NCAAT when they thought they should have), made it to 3 NCAATs (the first with previous coaches players) but losing first-round games there despite being the favorite.
Brownell's good seasons are like the heartbeat blips on a dying man's EKG, few and far apart and not enough to sustain him.

So, so silly . . . you TD me on an earlier one about a coach that is doing amazing things in year one with HALF of what we have at Clemson.
And he is doing it grassroots style - getting everyone involved in building something.
Our guy has 14 years of statistics behind him - and AT BEST - he is extremely average. I realize this post won't change your mind on that - but I am WATCHING first-hand that there are dudes out there that would KILL to lead Clemson and they would do WAY better than what we have gotten for the last 14 years.
How you don't see this right here is beyond comprehension:
"Two of the teams ahead of us are led by men with zero head coaching experience prior to their current jobs, and who have tenures under 3 years. One went to Final Four in his first year (actually, the championship game), the other won the ACCT in his first year.

I have been ready for a change for several years. However, barring a complete collapse, Brad will not be fired, nor can one justify firing him after this season when he wasn't let go after past seasons with a poorer record.
He's our guy and I hope the team has such success in the ACC tournament and the Dance that we can move on from this discussion as he is definitely back next year.
I wish he had the personality to recruit better. I wish he had the personality to sell the program better to the fans. Look at the Gymnastics coach for an example of salesmanship.
I wish he would get fired up and get in the ref's faces every once and a while over some of the calls that at times have been ridiculous. It's ok to occasionally get a T.
Brad is who he is. He's not going anywhere unless he wants to. He does have the guys playing better D for sure and the shots are dropping now, so I'm gonna enjoy the ride.
Last night in LJ was fun and locals need to come out and support the team against Syracuse next Tuesday at 7:00.

The keep-CBB folks will be downvoting me now, too, but this is roughly how I feel.
I spent far too long plugging results into spreadsheets yesterday to come up with a compelling case for a change, but the reality is there is evidence for both sides. I tend to want to compare BB and OP as I think OP clearly was “better”. He started with a worse team and had us on a clear trajectory upwards. We stunk when he started, we made the NIT a couple of times, then the last 3 years we made the NCAAT every year. JK pointed out that this was without any results (mostly as a favorite) on a separate thread. He is correct about that and certainly that is a data point when evaluating a coach. For me, though, I place more weight on consistently making the dance and the overall program trajectory. For that, I think OP clearly has the better history.
The other item that I think matters to the athletic department is attendance. If you look at the average attendance (even throwing out 2020-2021 COVID year), OP had attendance on a steady climb, while BB has us on a slight decline. To me, this indicates a general waning in interest/support. That said, the keep BB folks will say that COVID makes this apples to oranges.
To me, I see no reason why we can’t be a consistent NCAAT team. That is roughly top-45 - that bar is not that high. 3 times in 14 years (4 if you assume we make it this year), that is just not good enough for me.
I am a Tiger and will support our team and staff - whether I believe they are the best we can do or not, but given the choice between change or no-change, I am in the change camp.

the past that was never furthered . . . . What does Brownell do to engage the fans and the community ?
When is his foundation gala / fundraiser ?
What does he do to be a BIG part of the Clemson Community and Family ?
What does he do to engage the students and make them feel they are an important part of the building process - if, in fact, he is trying to build anything at Clemson ?
Some people may say that basketball coaches don't do that as much - or that isn't who Brad is . . .
I say - well - if basketball coaches don't really do that so much - this would be a great opportunity for a Clemson coach to change the landscape for all of college basketball.
And if that isn't really who Brad is - - - - well - that's our point - he isn't the right guy for the job.
Win like Leonard Hamilton or the UVa guy - and be somewhat of a recluse - might be a bit more OK.
Win like he has the last 14 years - comes across as apathetic and disinterested.

CM Shack® - TD and turn tail.
Any interest in answering what our basketball coach does to promote his vision and goals for the Clemson Basketball program ?
When is his fund raiser / gala? What is he passionate about in the Clemson Community ? And how would we know this ?
You know - program building stuff . . . .

Tell em Mr “Clemson doesn’t deserve Brad Brownell”. Thank you for letting us know how you really feel. Starting to wonder if you’re all these accounts. You certainly have the borderline mental illness it would require. Someone who hates Clemson but pays for premium seats to the least successful sport solely to stoke a bizzaro superiority complex.

The joy is in the heartache. It’s the new joy for a portion of our fan base. Misery does love company.
I realize Brownell is not Kryzewski or John Wooden but he’s above the average at Clemson in Bball. And it’s possible if he can establish a recruiting standard here that he can routinely keep us above the middle in the ACC. This year is a great squad. Next year might be a regression bc of so much talent leaving. This ain’t the year to complain. Cheer for the best outcome. Save your complaints for the rough seasons.
