He could have let us know he was signing with the Niners. Proud to see another Tiger following in Dwight Clark's footsteps...
Oh, those Niners...interesting choice.
From #2 OT in the Nation, to Charlotte. Best of Luck in padding up the OOC schedules of perennial powerhouses Gardner-Webb, James Madison, and Indiana. Hope everything works out for you!

He was an OG and never rated as the #2 OT. He was a liability at tackle and continously had trouble keeping his weight down—

"By the end of his time at Leesville Road High School, Mayes made a name for himself, as he was the No. 14 overall player in the nation by ESPN, the No. 2 offensive tackle in the country and the No. 2 player from the state. Mayes wanted to continue his success by joining a great program like Clemson."

You were right though, ESPN didn't have him as the #2 OT, they slotted him as the #1 OT nationally. Thank you for pointing that out - TU to you for your efforts!

He was projected to be a much different player than he turned out to be - coming out of HS, he was projected as an early round NFL Draft Pick at OT.

from behind a keyboard and with a roll of the dice. They don't have the sufficient boots on the ground or heirarchy/leadership to be considered a serious recruiting service. Nobody in their right mind ever considered Mayes the #2 OT in the nation, his poor showing at the combine camps (Opening Finals an embarrassing performance) were proof enough he was not equipped to play tackle—

His mobility stinks. He's a large object you have to go around and they do.

Another reason not to put too much stock into recruiting rankings. Perhaps development will improve significantly in the OL Room with Coach Luke at the helm.

Thinking you're spot-on. Good coaching typically involves good player development.
Then again, your opinion may not be very popular with TNET geniuses, because according to them winning is all about "talent" acquisition. Of course "talent" is highly subjective, but take it from the them, they're experts. When none of your 4 or 5* recruits don't pan out at a position it MUST be because they're just not talented. Coaching and development is so..... overrated. Anybody can coach 4 and 5* players into the NFL. Except for recently, and only at certain positions. Strange. Maybe Dabo FORGOT how to recruit WR's. That's it, he developed amnesia. NO WAY our player development sucks at WR. That makes no sense, none.
I'm guessing most of those posts are made by fans under the age of 10, but still. I'll jump off my soapbox now.

Probably a better fit for him. Hope he does well there. Our OL should be a totally different monster next year. Cade was deadly when he had protection (which wasn’t very often this year).

I never expected much out of Mitchell Mayes because of his weight issues.
Hope he's able to play a couple of years at Charlotte, stay healthy, get his degree and prosper in life after football.
