So much going on right now, but can we still think some on football?
Some of yall are proven Tiger experts, I learn a lot here. This will be his 3rd (and maybe last) year as a Tiger. Is he going to be one of the best at linebacker to ever play for us?

He is of that standard. Flipping him and Trent late last season along with Trotter in the middle resulted in the best linebacker trio play in the past ten years.
I think Trotter and Carter are both off to the NFL after 2023 season…reloading.

I say yes. What gets lost with all the incredible DLinemen that have come through is the studs at LB over the last decade. Trotter, Simpson, Simmons, Spector, etc. Hurts to lose two but got to agree with Cooltig. Big shoes to fill.

Uhhhhh...SKALSKI! Uhhhhhh...BOULEWARE! I know they didn't have the NFL career but as leaders and competitors those dudes have to be in there.

Uhhhhhh, the etc. I am well aware of those two players as any Clemson fan would be. Just rattled off the first few that came to mind. No need getting your panties in a wad. Could just say “I’d add Bouleware and Skalski” without the histrionics. Coot. FGF>>>>>>

Hopefully... If he continues to get better, he will be hard to keep out of that conversation.

I don't know if he gets to the level of Kirkland, Sheppard, John Johnson, Wayne Simmons, or Anthony Simmons, but I think he has pretty good chance to be up there with Isaiah Simmons as one of the best of the 2000's.

Don't leave Keith Adams out of that conversation. I loved watching him get after the coots in '99, a 27 tackle performance to keep that hapless bunch winless on the season.

Met ‘the termite’ at tiger town tavern a couple summers after he played. Place was dead and we talked for what seemed like forever. We both had three drinks. We said our goodbyes and then I realized it had only been about 5 minutes.

Most underrated Clemson LB. Also had a pro bowl NFL career.

Looking back at his pure athleticism Isaiah Simmons was just a flat out baller. Wish I had appreciated him more while he was here.

Barret Carter is a fantastic player, but the LB corp Of W.Simmon(rip), Ashley Sheppard, John Johnson, Ed McDaniel and Levon Kirkland are as good as you're going to ever see in college football.

Yep when someone says "Clemson Linebackers" those of us who are of a certain age think of that group of MEN.

I have high hopes for Trotter becoming dominant this season but Carter should be a beast as well.
Hoping those guys on the backend eat a lot and get in the weight room.

There’s a reason why Clemson was considered LBU for years.

Linebacker has arguably been the most consistently great position at Clemson over the past 40-50 years, most of whom are mentioned in this thread.

The linebackers of the late 80's were the best! Kirkland, Shepherd, Simmons, Johnson, Brewster, and Bussie. Bussie might have been the best of all but Hatfield could not control him.

Carter and Trotter will be first team All- ACC. When was the last time we had a pair with such lofty expectations ?

He certainly has that potential. Isaiah was so dominant in his junior year, so he’s still the best we’ve had under Dabo. Barrett has the ability to be even better though.

but maybe not as good as Isaiah Simmons.
IMO, he was just about as good as Simpson last year. 100x better on pass coverage but not quite as good a pass rusher.
Carter's range is crazy. He will be a true 3-level defensive player in the NFL. A bigger version of Derwin James.
I hope whoever drafts him next year doesn't force him to gain 25 lbs and stick him at linebacker, rush DE full time. His coverage ability is too good to waste.

Levonster Ashley Sheppard Wayne Simmons John Johnson
Those LB corps were LOADED!
And he has a ways to go to reach the level of Anthony Simmons and Keith Adams too.
Lastly, this year, he might no even be as good as Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
