turned out to be getting that huge gable fan going so my precious car won't suffocate in the heat coming up. The owner/paint and body guy loves that fan too.
I told Tigerfurlife, my son the AC/Heat guy, that the bearings were making no noise, the fan runs fine for five-6 minutes and he said it was the capacitor. I had a shot of the labeling on the fan motor so he selected a capacitor and installed it for me cause it's 12' off the floor. And I'm not comfortable standing on my toes without a handrail.
The fan ran a full half hour and pushes about 200 more RPM that it did yesterday. It will carry most of the overspray from the sealer and primer away from the work.
Here's photo of the receipt for the capacitor.
The deal was if Sonof installed the capacitor we'd go there and leave immediately and start working on locating, identifying and replacing the PCV valve and attached hose on his pickup. That's why I'm done with my project today.
I SHALL RETURN!

How is he comfortable replacing a capacitor but needs help with a PCV valve?
Or was this just a clever caring son ploy to get pops out of a hot garage?

identifying the shape of the hose, it's molded and not a matter of buying it in standard shape like other small hoses. Removing those components which hide the hose will disable the vehicle until the new hose can be ordered and received.
We've found no part stores including online services like Ebay and Amazon, any local stores like Napa, Autozone and such that list that hose. We're told the original gets enough heat to make it brittle and almost impossible to disconnect without destroying it.
The truck runs but it's using oil even after a new valve cover gasket set. It's a 2.3 L Mitsubishi engine FWD in a Ranger.

is it a diesel? that's the only 2.3 I'm familiar with Mitsubishi making for a Ranger.

There appear to be several PCV hoses listed for that model. I believe it actually has two different hoses. I have spent less than two minutes researching this and I really don't know. I've seen photos of several different hoses which are presented to be applicable to this vehicle's PCV system.
I think the boy just doesn't want to do all that wrenching. There's half a dozen things to remove to get to the PCV valve. It's below the intake manifold on the lower right side of the engine. He'll figure it all out.
He's trying to find out about it without tearing it down, disabling it and waiting on the parts. Between us we have three endoscopes. I have one that cost a fortune with super sight so I'll lay it out before I leave this morning and let him do the maths.
If, in your kindness, leisure time and grace can find out exactly which hose(s) we need I will increase your credit limit on my books.

Evidently he found the Ranger forum and decided to remove a hose to get a look at the PCV hose and valve.

Have you seen the photographs of the nastiness inside that cover where the PCV valve mounts? It looks like the inside of a valve cover during the days everyone thought Quakerstate was the best oil in the world.
This has become an adventure to get all that junk out of the way and get both the hose and PCV valve replaced after that cover comes off and he cleans that chamber.

Sounds like wheel off is the way to go, but they get pretty detailed. It’s the 2nd or 3rd reply or so.

When the car is done, I’d like to take it out about 6am in my finest linen suit, put on some Phil Collins, and run the length of the Southern Connector at 90mph, pretending I’m an 80’s drug baron.

He wanted me to have that fan blowing for safety and health reason. He just lost his brother so...
I could have changed it, I mean black is common and there's only two places to hook two wires and two screws to loosen the straps. I mostly appreciated that he diagnosed the problem without and identified the capacitor to match from a photo of the motor. I would have removed it and sought an identical replacement.
