Trump's in-depth interview with TIME

Take the time to read it.
Whether or not he was kidding about bringing a tyrannical end to our 248-year experiment in democracy, I ask him, Don’t you see why many Americans see such talk of dictatorship as contrary to our most cherished principles? Trump says no. Quite the opposite, he insists. “I think a lot of people like it.”

incoherent ramblings. He clearly hasn’t given any thought to a lot of his policy stances, and just flies by the seat of his pants, which was typical in his first term.

Our tax dollars have been stolen for years to cover Medicaid, welfare etc for people who don’t care and/or prepare for their future. I’ve seen it close up with my husband’s family members and it’s pretty infuriating. Your poor choices and lack of preparation should not be my or any other taxpayer’s responsibility but of course we all know it is. The money for all these expenses are coming from the same place. None of it benefits me.

Is this supposed to be a joke? The author is clearly biased and a democrat who hates Trump. Do you deny that? Where is the video of the interview? How do we know Trump really said any of this? I guess get ready for a dictatorship bc if the polls are any indicator, Trump is winning.

The conversation was recorded. So what's your take on Trumps comments? Your squirming, aren't you? LOL

Thank you Birm for the full interview. That was much better than the opinion article that cat posted which contained very little of the actual article. That article was written by someone who clearly hates Trump. However, I thought the interview was great and I agree with pretty much everything Trump said. The only part I thought was silly was the wheels and walls comment.
Cat maybe you should go read the actual interview in its entirety instead of that article you posted. This interview only confirmed he will be getting my vote. He never said he wants to be a dictator and that he would leave office after 4 years.

Dear BirminghamTiger®,
Thanks again (I thanked you obliquely in my response to Catahoula®’s original post / thread starter.
I am good with what Trump said.
I owe you the courtesy of responding to your implied criticism of Trump’s comments about the wall:
Of course walls (which, as all honest people who are even remotely informed at the least know, is shorthand for a fence which is especially constructed to significantly impede the ability of person(s) to traverse) are effective.
Ever thought about why prisons have ‘walls’? Hint: They are not put around prisons for aesthetic purposes.

You're claiming this whole interview was fabricated?
He literally sat for a photoshoot for it.
If it's NOT fabricated (which it isn't), clearly you don't like the quotes and find them troublesome. So when you learn it is, indeed, real, how are you going to react to Trump saying them?
You backed yourself into a corner here. You don't like the quotes. So you played the "it's gotta be made up!" card. Now you're stuck having to either change your views to back Dear Leader, or you'll have to denounce Trump for saying them.

I never once claimed the whole interview was fabricated. I asked a question about whether the interview was recorded. Which given the extreme bias of the author, is a legitimate question. This wasn’t just an interview article. This was an opinion piece with a few questions and Trump answers scattered in between an insanely biased article.
I haven’t read the entire article yet. I’m about halfway through it as I am working right now. So far, I don’t have an issue with anything he said. I think it’s completely reasonable, absent a recording, to doubt the author’s credibility given the obvious hate and disdain of Trump by the author. I still haven’t gotten to the dictator part that you quoted in the OP. I’ll let you know when I finish reading the article. If Trump actually did say he wanted to be a dictator he would lose my vote.

No professional reporter sits down for a lengthy interview without recording it, especially with a president.
Why is it biased? Because it doesn't worship Trump? It points out the wrong he's done?
So far, I don’t have an issue with anything he said.
Let us know when you get to that dictator part.

They've made Trump their identity. It's not about political ideology. It's about the cult of Trump. And if he is exposed as wrong, they feel they're now exposed as wrong. They know all of this looks bad (look at DrumMajor), but if they admit that Trump has erred, they're afraid the world will see them at fault as well too and rub it in their faces.
They have to maintain their identity.

for the addlebrained. I mean if too much reality hits too quickly, it can cuase people to snap, so their subconscious invents ways to prevent this from happening, and we are witnessing one of these rationalizations in real time. It is neat. I hope more things come to light and eventually a few of them do snap, in real time.

What dictator stuff? He never said he was going to be a dictator. I said I used to be considered a liberal. That term has been hijacked and the goal posts have been moved. I’m fine with gays getting married, weed being legal, and early term abortions(less than 8 weeks). I also believe in the 2nd amendment and limited federal government. I used to get called a liberal 15 years ago for being fine with weed and gay marriage.
Now leftists call themselves liberal. Those who believe a man can be a woman, late term abortions, systemic racism/DEI, white guilt, CRT, open borders and so on.

May 2, 2024, 7:09 PM

When (I should say “if” because I doubt that you’ll do it) read the actual transcript you will learn something important:
America’s gullible leftists are self-deceiving fools that would rather embrace a manipulative message that reinforces their biases than they are to read the he facts.
The Time Mag author provided both, yet TNet’s sheep prefer the propaganda piece to the actual transcript.
Dare to take the RTD challenge and read both the widely disseminated article -&- the transcript. Then, tell us what you think.
Regards.

Yes, your talking about when he said he thinks people like it when he said the dictator for a day bs. It would have been best if he didn’t say that. One of my main criticisms of Trump is his mouth and his inability to shut it. However, I honestly do not think he wants to be a dictator. If he wanted to that would never happen in America. We have checks and balances, our forefathers were brilliant and covered all the bases. Once again, I fully believe he does not desire to be an authoritarian.

His actions show he does. His actions after the election very clearly show that he does. In the article, it mentions the plan by his acolytes to curb power of Congress and the courts and strengthen the executive office under Trump. This is a real plan, Project 2025. It is a detailed, mapped out blueprint of how they want to give Trump as much power as possible. They have plans to cut those checks and balances. Even the article states how Trump plans to weaponize the DoJ.

People that have worked with him, in office, andnot in office, say he is a wannabe dictator. He is extremely insecure and doesn't listen to anyone. He is FOS and wants to act like he understands issues. He is absolutley clueless generally speaking. He knows more than the generals. He would end the war in Ukraine in 3 days or whatever he said. He would do the same in the Israel/Hamas situation. He is clown. He will say anything.

Trump has an authoritarian mindset, as does his party....
May 2, 2024, 1:41 PM
|
|
Trump, at this point, is a reflection of the GOP base.
The GOP no longer supports Democracy in general. And they are OK with an authoritarian in power, as long as it's THEIR guy.
See attached as just one micro-example of the type of thinking that is rampant on the right-wing:
https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/the-wa-gop-put-it-in-writing-that-theyre-not-into-democracy/
Quoting from the link:
After the candidates left, the convention’s delegates got down to crafting a party platform. Like at most GOP gatherings in the Donald Trump era, this one called for restrictions on voting. In Washington state, the delegates called for the end of all mail-in voting. Instead, we would have a one-day-only, in-person election, with photo ID and paper ballots, with no use of tabulating machines or digital scanners to count the ballots. All ballots would be counted by hand, by Trappist monks.
OK, I made up the monk part. I did not make up the part about banning the use of machines to count votes. All in all it would make voting less convenient and harder, by rolling it back at least half a century.
But then the convention veered into more unexpected anti-democratic territory.
A resolution called for ending the ability to vote for U.S. senators. Instead, senators would get appointed by state legislatures, as it generally worked 110 years ago prior to the passage of the 17th Amendment in 1913.
“We are devolving into a democracy, because congressmen and senators are elected by the same pool,” was how one GOP delegate put it to the convention. “We do not want to be a democracy.”
We don’t? There are debates about how complete of a democracy we wish to be; for example, the state Democratic Party platform has called for the direct election of the president (doing away with the Electoral College). But curtailing our own vote? The GOPers said they hoped states’ rights would be strengthened with such a move.
Then they kicked it up a notch. They passed a resolution calling on people to please stop using the word “democracy.”
“We encourage Republicans to substitute the words ‘republic’ and ‘republicanism’ where previously they have used the word ‘democracy,’ ” the resolution says. “Every time the word ‘democracy’ is used favorably it serves to promote the principles of the Democratic Party, the principles of which we ardently oppose.”
The resolution sums up: “We … oppose legislation which makes our nation more democratic in nature.”
Should we be surprised that the people that who get extremely bothered by democracy have nominated a guy who is an authoritarian for President (again)?

Re: Trump has an authoritarian mindset, as does his party....

Trump, at this point, is a reflection of the GOP base. The GOP no longer supports Democracy in general. And they are OK with an authoritarian in power, as long as it's THEIR guy. See attached as just one micro-example of the type of thinking that is rampant on the right-wing: https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/the-wa-gop-put-it-in-writing-that-theyre-not-into-democracy/Quoting from the link: After the candidates left, the convention’s delegates got down to crafting a party platform.

Said by a man who supports an administration that dismissed military personnel who declined to get the COVID vaccine

You're really grasping at straws. I guess if I were in your shoes, I'd be grasping, too.

Re: Trump's in-depth interview with TIME is your quote in the transcript?

Where in the actual transcript that BirminghamTiger® kindly provided is the quote (in the italics)?
I read the entire Time Mag transcript (albeit quickly); I don’t bother reading their slanted ‘interpretation’ of the interview with Trump because typically that would be a waste of time. Again, actual transcripts are meaningful. After this gets squared away, then I’ll give you your answer.
Help a brother out.
Thanks.

Sheesh. I stopped at "...were the outlines of an imperial presidency that would reshape America and its role in the world"
SMH.
Worrying about this as the current POTUS reshapes America and the world...
