Seems like everything may be on his shoulders this year. I fully expect him to be great. A great passer and a great runner. I can see the athletic plays coming like Johnny Manziel and DW4.
But there’s always a possibility things may not work. Is Cade the one who has to uplift this program back to usual? I don’t think Vizzina will end up any better than Tajh Boyd.

Everything isn’t going to be on his shoulders. Shipley and Mafah are going to be property utilized. There’s going to be personnel groupings with both on the field at the same time. Last year we were very inconsistent at putting the ball in our best players hands. That doesn’t always have to come via handoff or pitch.

You’re correct, but I meant more of just the situation Cade is in. Recruiting is obviously taking a small step back, and QBs are going elsewhere. Because IMO, Riley needs to show proof that Clemson can run good offense again. So just really about Cade maybe being the last guy to save elite status for Clemson. Because if he fails, what then?

Are you suggesting we should have run more on the season or we didn't call correct runs, or what? We weren't good enough at running the ball to do so by just running it down people's throats.
Granted, there is no debated about the uSC game.

Most 5 stars tend to be consensus. But Vizzina wasn't a 5 star in any of them. I was saying he wasn't consensus top 100.

He was a great fit for the CM offense but we all need to remember the receivers Tajh worked with. Guys were wide open a lot. I’d still be pleased with another Tajh though. My point was how can anyone predict CV potential when he hasn’t even taken a snap. He could be elite, average, or garbage.

Dabo, it sounds like he's the real deal. I agree though, he hasn't taken a single snap, so who knows ... but, per Dabo one day ago:
“He’s just a smooth, very instinctive, very natural player,” Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said. “It’s really important that he can run, he’s got very good technique, he’s got excellent ball skills, he’s incredibly competitive. All those things will serve him well.
“He’s not been overwhelmed. He’s picked things up, he’s shown up and competed every single day. It’s just easy to see the talent. The kid can run, I mean really run. And he’s got a big arm, can absolutely rip it. So we’ve got a really good situation there.”
“CV’s special, it’s easy to see,” Swinney said. “And he’s only 17 years old. He’s got a bright, bright future.

I don’t think Dabo is sugar coating anything, but he says this about almost all his QBs.
But this is truly great news to hear, it sounds like he really is playing and adjusting well.

his teams just couldn't get it done against Clowney and the Coots. Butt, I've said it before and will say it till I die, Tajh Boyd threw as pretty (and accurate) a deep ball as ANY QB we have ever had. And, he was a tough as nails guy, go back and watch that 4th and 16 game and see how many times he got up after being blasted by LSU, many times after gaining some necessary yards on the ground.
I have never seen the need to establish a singular "greatest" Clemson QB, anyway. Let them all be great in the way that they were. No amount of discussion is going to change a single play that was made in any of their games, just celebrate the plays they made while they were here, be happy they chose Clemson, and move on.

You have to remember, they only won their miserable division once. And their reward for that was getting absolutely smoked in the title game. They never didnt anything of note on the national stage. You can say Clemson was still in building mode during those years and you wouldnt be wrong. But there were years in there Clemson should have won but didnt.

Main competition in the East:
2010: Florida 8-5, UGA 6-7, Tennessee 6-7. Only played 2 ranked SEC opponents. 2011: Georgia 10-4, Florida 7-6, Tennessee 5-7 2012: East was actually pretty good 2013: Georgia 8-5, Florida 4-8, Tennessee 5-7. East was so bad Mizzou won it and Vandy finished ranked. Only played 2 ranked SEC opponents(Vandy and Mizzou). Also played Kentucky 2-10, Arkansas 3-9, Tennessee 5-7, Florida 4-8

until 10 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, when we were behind 26-7.
In 2011, coots finished ranked #9, and beat teams that finished #19, 22, and 24 along the way. Their only losses were to #5 ARK and unranked Auburn. So they had one bad loss, and beat 3 ranked teams. Certainly can't go back and say they didn't deserve the ranking, or that they weren't all that good. They were a top 10 team.
In 2012, coots beat #5, 11, 23, and 24, and lost to #9 and 12. So, 4 good wins wins, two of which were pretty impressive, and one bad loss (44-11) to the #9 team. Again, a legitimate top 10 team, finishing at #8.
In 2013, coots beat #5, 8, 10, 22, and 24, and lost to a bad Tennessee team, and to a so-so UGA team that finished unranked after being ranked most of the season, as high as #6 at one point. So, 3 great wins, 2 more against ranked teams, and two disappointing losses. After a strong finish, the wound up ranked #4.
Bottom line: Nobody is claiming they were the 1985 Chicago Bears or the 72 Dolphins. But, they were very good teams that probably deserved their top 10 rankings. Furthermore, it's absurd to suggest that Tajh Boyd was not all that good because "He" never beat the coots; it's downright laughable, and that's what this whole thread is about.

I know the point you’re trying to make, but how did we get to the point of making an argument FOR South Carolina. Remember, we’re CLEMSON fans.
We were welll good enough to win those games with Tajh anyways LOL. The offense was just a loosely structured fire powered offense that made a lot of play calling errors and on field errors. For example, the INT Sammy Watkins threw in Williams Brice in 2012. That should’ve been a TD.
In 2013, we got blasted by FSU, but that was in my opinion the best offense I’ve ever seen besides 2019 LSU. But we were definitely a top 10 team and were good enough to win.

Look for the place where I said Tajh wasn’t a good QB at Clemson. He’s one of our greatest ever. One of the best ACC QBs ever.
Regardless of how good he was, he collapsed in the biggest games. Don’t know if he had a pressure issue because he still played well in a couple big game losses. He just wasn’t at the level of Watson or Lawrence, which is fine because no one is. But I think Cade has the potential to be like DW and be that great.
It’s just speculation anyways, who the hell knows what will happen.

Look for the place where I said that you said that.
My reply to you was simply to clarify that I was NOT making a case for the coots, but rather was making a case for Tajh, as some others have implied that he was not that good since the teams he was on never beat the coots.

I was specifically referring to the part where tigerpride said the SEC was brutal back then. Scar did in fact have some really good teams and NFL talent. I disagree with the SEC being "brutal" though. I stand by my post and I only used final rankings for SEC teams they actually played.
I gave them credit for 2012 but even then you could say:
4 of 6 conference wins came against opponents with a combined 16-32 record. Other 2 conference wins came against 9-4 Vandy and the big win over Georgia.
Their 2 conference losses was a respectable 2 point loss on the road at LSU and a complete dismantling at Florida 44-11.
Again not saying Scar wasn't good but this brutal SEC crap is over blown.

Yeah I agree. The SEC is truly overrated in their “history”. Yes I credit Alabama and others that have won championships, but it’s truly only been the west division. Georgia only won 2 the last 2 years, but they hadn’t won since we did in the early 80s. The East had been no better than your average P5 division until very recently. Maybe I sound crazy to all other college football fans, but it’s just my take.

Tajh was an incredible QB. He's Clemson's career passing leader. He had three seasons where he threw for more yards than Trevor did in his best season (and no one thinks Trevor was anything but incredible). He has 7 of the top 10 passing performances in Clemson history. And he had a great record as a starter (32-8) and gave us our first ACC championship and BCS win in decades. Who the hell are you to crap on him and say some freshman will be better than him?

Don't flame me, but I look for this year to be a rebuilding year. You don't master the air raid in one off season. Hope I am wrong. I see huge future success, but not convinced this year is our year.

I hope you're wrong too (and think you are). The air raid is a pretty simple offense to install if you have the pieces. And I think this is sort of our last major hurrah. I just think NIL is going to keep beating us down worse and worse since we have neither the money nor the "win at all costs - screw morals" mentality schools like Georgia and Ohio State do.

If either of the QBs on the roster puts up the same stats as Tajh Boyd we will all be thrilled.

I believe we will see a rejuvenated team across the board this upcoming season. All the excitement around GR and a new offensive scheme in general I believe will leave the door open for lots of guys to become stars and to be utilized to their highest and best potential. I think Cade will gets lots of help

How do you have an opinion about Vizzina? He's never taken a single snap at Clemson...
All games are a team effort, one person does not win or lose games. We need to have balance and I think Riley's offense will provide that and from the sounds of it people may actually know what to do. Richardson is a pig in slop, he knows the offense inside and out and knows how to coach it. Actually use the entire field! What a concept.
On D, Wes is in his second year and hopefully the secondary will plug the leaks. From the sounds of it Woods is going to be an impact player right out of the chute... solid group coming back.
Special teams, new kicker...
So no it's not all on Cade...

I don’t have an opinion of Vizzina. I just said I don’t expect his potential is better than being a Tajh Boyd. Who didn’t win the 2 most important games each year he played. Again, I know Tajh was great, but he couldn’t get those done.
What you said about team effort is right, but it’s obvious that not having the QB we need heavily affects everything. Did you expect the Patriots and Bellicheck to continue their dominance after Brady left? Well guess what, they didn’t. The QB has most effect. It’s the truth.
I never mentioned the Defense anyways, I haven’t been worried about our defense since 2013.
And with all the missed QB recruits, again it shows we have to show good offense obviously. If Cade can’t do that, I’d just be worried about Vizzina have to take us to a playoff to keep our status. Which is what all we care about.
