Dabo making excuses is actually painting him in a corner!
Sep 20, 2021, 9:44 AM
|
|
Dabo has always made excuses about OL. He has never wanted to admit publicly that the OL is our weakness and that up to 2020 and 2021 we did not recruit very well at the OL position.
Our excellent QB play and quality running backs plus the up-tempo offense covered a lot of sins on the OL. But we have abandoned the up-tempo offense and have been getting poor play out of the QB and RB positions.
Dabo does not want to admit the problem. He will not be accountable and be honest and say this is our issue but we’re going to get it fixed. Instead he keeps blaming execution and mistakes.
That’s painting him in a corner! Rather than saying we don’t have the numbers or the talent but it’s getting better and we’re going to fix it he keeps blaming it on errors and execution. Well that’s coaching! That should get fixed because that is a coaching issue! And if it doesn’t get fixed then he has to fire the staff and get better OL coaches.

i agree with you, we have been spoiled for the last 6 ys or even more, now we will see just how good a coach he really is and i wish him success its obvious we do not have the offensive talent we have enjoyed the past 6 yrs + if we do i have yet to see it, i really think lyn joe dixon is our best back if given the chance but all i here is that he has to grow up, well all i have to say it looks like our entire offense has to grow up including the coaching staff, put the best players on the field that gives you the best chance to succeed right now i'm not convinced that is happening, i think we have been listening to all the outside chatter in how great we were and guess what were not.

yes i have and he is good, but we need two complimenting each other, LJD is more illusive, both of them would be a good sort like thunder and lighting back in the day.

I just don’t understand all the LJD love. Sure when given space he’s a good back, just like pretty much everyone else. But when we need tough yards, when we need to break a tackle or two and push the pile, LJD is not going to be a back that can do that. He rarely ever breaks a tackle and gets taken down with ease.
If he had all the carries Shipley had yesterday he would have gained half the yards. Shipley ran through tacklers all day yesterday and picked up yardage that wasn’t there. He moved the pile and made men miss. LJD does not do that, nor has he ever.

i' m not saying shipley is not good he is very good but we need two and one who can catch out of the backfield, we just need more threats so it can open up our passing more, LJD is a fast back who can do this along with shipley.

answer. When coaches being paid 10mil a year throw the kids under the bus, it generally doesn't go well. As much as it's a recruiting and coaching problem, he still can't really come out and say the OL stinks without criticizing the actual players.
The best he could probably do is say something to the extent of "Our offensive line is struggling right now, but that's our fault as coaches. We need to do a better job coaching those guys. That's on us."
But even that is a difficult tight rope to walk - specifically calling out one group of players.

you left out VERY POOR coaching by TE and RC. we have the talent but not the coaches to knowing how to use them. We lost Chad Morris. TE is a very poor replacement.Call it what it is.

TE as primary play caller, has won 2 Natty's in 6 years! Who can claim that in all of college football? Maybe Sark at Alabama?

lighten up Francis..

We sit here at our computers (while we should be working) and rant about all that is wrong. Are we a top 5 program? yes. Are we a top 5 team this year so far? no. And I'm okay with it. Dabo has forgotten more than all of us combined. He's done a great job so far. So to use his term, he's got money in the bank. He's earned it. The OL is our weakest link. Yes. Our QB play hasn't been stellar either. But these are young players, and the head coach doesn't need to be throwing players under the bus. That's a great way to cause a rift between coach and player. So everyone please, just relax. We will be back.
I will be fishing more this year. Can't wait. Going to Canada in a week to slay giant pike, smallmouth, walleye and lake trout.

And i totally agree with you, heck we've one the last 5 or six yrs and i would like to see that continue but i have to be a realist we have a very young offensive unit and they are going to have growing pains and they are going to make mistakes thats all in a part of learning, its very difficult to stay atop 5 program, we have done it for 5 or six yrs now that is remarkable in it's self, so bottom line is we have to be patient but it will come maybe not this yr but the future us bright nonetheless.

He essentially said “we got who we got” this past weekend, but he isn’t going to throw individual players under the bus and I appreciate that.

I'm not sure I want our head coach being brutally honest about deficiencies in press conferences. In fact, I'm fairly certain we DON'T want him doing that. You don't stick a mic in your coach's face so you can hear him say "listen up competition - this guy is our weakest link, this situation is our Achilles heel, these types of play calls we have no answer for....see y'all Saturday!!".

This team is just going to look different offensively than we are used to. Shipley had 21 carries which is more than any RB since ETN had 28 in a game in 2018. This is the third game of the year when we are still rotating RBs on each possession to determine who is going to be “the guy”. He averaged over 4 yards per carry and we started to use the QB run game a little more. I think we found the guy and we are going to be running the ball a lot more than we have the last 5-6 years and we may only score 28 points a game but with our defense that will be more than enough to win. Take a deep breath and a step back Tiger fans. We’ll be ok.

I agree and 3.9 yards per carry is winning football. If the passing game will improve we will be just fine.
