Bourbon Talk - Bourbons New to Me

Below are the bourbons/rye whiskeys I have tried for the first time in the last seven days, and my first impressions.
This is an open invitation for your thoughts on any bourbon or rye whiskey. For the purposes of this thread, bourbon does not have to be distilled in KY.
Michter's toasted sour mash - slightly sweet, bold flavor; IMO better than Michter's regular sour mash
High West Double Rye - slightly sweet, bold enough for me (I like bold); I'm going to buy a bottle
Tin Cup - not bad, but didn't stand out
Bulleit rye - not bad, but didn't stand out
Bib & Tucker small batch, not bad, but didn't stand out

Agree on the Old Ezra. I've only heard good things about Weller CYPB. I'll definitely give it a try if I get the chance. OFC. I'm going to have to read up on it.

OFC is extremely expensive like Pappy’s. CYPB is available in Greenville at the bar down town owned by relative of Brown Wooten family

I really appreciate the info. The OFC sounds just like something a good friend of mine, and some of his friends would go for.

Better than most at the lower-middle price range. Papa Pillars is a good sipping rum if you want something different and they have a Sherry cask rum that is great. Makes a good gift.

If you’re looking for the same price range as regular bulleit; Elijah Craig small batch is my go to. Since you’re open to Bourbons distilled in place other than Kentucky I really like Hirsch straight bourbon whiskey it’s from Indiana but bottled in KY.

I own a bottle of Bulleit 10-year bourbon. For me, based on a head-to-head against the regular Bulleit bourbon, it wasn't worth the extra money.
I will give the Hirsch a look.

I second the EC small batch. Rock solid. Just tapped an Eagle Rare 10 yr that I scooped up a couple months ago for 40 bucks. It is excellent. Heading to a bourbon drop tomorrow and have a shot (please o please) at Willett 8 yr, Russell 13 yr and Weller. Wish me luck!

Penelope Toast is a new one for me , New Riff single barrel that you can only get in Kentucky or have it delivered, very good, as far as the easy to find , Elijah Craig, Four Roses small Batch, Woodford reserve double oak, and Bulleit.

I'll bring a bottle of BT...it's not a fave of mine. Do you know where High West Midwinters Night Dram can be had?
High West Double Rye...can't beat the price...$35.00
Michters Rye is really good, too. Really GOOD! Most any Michters is good, though. And to think it didn't exist for decades.
I've almost come to the point where rye and wheated are what I'm partial to...but...I won't forsake the originals!

I'm adding Michter's rye to my to-try list off of your recommendation. The reason I tried the High West double rye is because I thought I remembered your posting that it was good for making an old fashioned. I tried it neat and was impressed.

My go to is Elijah Craig but I’m just getting started. Agree with JK above - Jefferson’s Ocean is solid and cool to see the route the different batches take.
A recent try for me which might become my go to is Yellowstone - very smooth. Olde Raleigh is also a good sipper.
Keep the thread going. I’m also building a list of others to try and tracking all the suggestions!

Is that the Four Roses Single Barrel Barrel Strength OESQ? Been looking for that one and Elijah Craig Barrel Proof C923. I picked up a pretty good Charleston local this past week while traveling for work, Vesey's Single Barrel BIB at Coosaw Liquor in N. Charleston.

Drank a lot of different bourbons and brown liquors, not sure of a favorite but definitely some are disgusting.
That said, that Evan Williams Egg Nog is actually really good if you like egg nog.

There are a couple of stores in Beaufort that reward their good customers. Not sure what it says about me, but I'm a good customer.
