ABC just gave NC State some bad news (and the ACC in general

So instead of selecting 2 ranked teams (including a #10 team), ABC selected a 4-3 FSU against a 3-4 Miami team that just had 8 turnovers at home and lost to Duke for the 7:30 pm primetime telecast. They relegated #10 WF at #24 NCSU to the ACC network.
I think this speaks volumes to the ACC and the teams not named Clemson, FSU, or Miami for when the next round of realignment comes around. Especially NCSU. If they can't get on ABC or ESPN for a top 25 matchup, then I don't see how they have any hope for being considered a premium property for another conference.

really the #10 team. And NC State is not a big name either. Not a matchup that will draw many eyeballs, no matter their ranking. FSU-Miami are much bigger brands and will bring many more viewers, despite their records. Simple economics.

With Leary injured and out for the season, IMO, NC State has been on borrowed time. They will probably not be a ranked team after Saturday.

win without him. They were a good team that would be right there with WF at 9-11 as they would have beaten SU with him. Losses coming for them to WF and likely UNC. That’s a 8-4 season that could have been 10 or 11 wins if he had stayed healthy. One side note is the committee will be well aware of when our win against them occurred and essentially they are a diff team now. That’s one of the big differences between the committee and these twitter experts and AP writers

To those that don't keep up with the ACC, they know the FSU-Miami rivalry. It used to be really good and really significant. Obviously, now, the NCSU - WFU game is much bigger, but I can see why they went with the FSU-Miami game. Neither WF or NCSU will draw a high TV audience, I don't think. Not that FSU/Miami would be much better, but there's better possibility there.

Without their qb who was having a average year anyways the Pack has no draw. WF may be legit with COVID seniors and explosive offense but still just an ACC team from Winston Salem.

Agree on all this. Reality is, as much as their fans would like to think they are, NC State is not a national brand. FSU and Miami still are, for better or worse. Not saying the state of their football programs is representative of said brand recognition and following but I think it helps reinforce what Clemson has done over the past decade plus to rise to the level we are at now.

....over rankings.
Yes both Wake and NCSU are ranked - but NCSU's season is basically over after Leary (QB) went out for the season.
Wake is most likely going to torch an NCSU-on-lifesupport, and early in the game. Because FSU and UM both suck to the same degree, but play the game like it's a rivalry, it'll probably garner more vierwers.

instead of schools that are actually doing relatively well now. Kind of a head scratcher, for sure. Probably also has to do with the size, affluence, and INFLUENCE of the Alumni bases of the schools involved, as well.

Miami-FSU is a rivalry and has produced a ton of memorable games. Also, no Leary makes NCSU really bad.

Wake doesn't draw any eyeballs, and State doesn't draw too many either. Add in the likelihood of a non-competitive game and i think taking the rivalry game is a no-brainer.

As crappy as the FSU vs Miami matchup is this year, it is considered a classic matchup like ND vs USC. Who knows, maybe we'll be entertained by a lot of wide right and wide left FG attempts....LOL!

Would be a good flip from the UGA/UT game…. Or even a nooner on ABC might have been better…which they gave to Ohio St @ a bad Northwestern team. But now you have CU/ND, FSU/Mia, & Wake/State at same time…opposite Bama/LSU and whatever else.

Nobody outside of the ACC wants to watch Wake v ncsu. It’s all about eyes on tv’s. At least they get a nationally televised game.

Found it odd that they went w/ FSU-Miami as the ABC primetime game

Considering Wake-NC State is A) ranked matchup and B ) actually has stakes - especially for Wake who's in best position for NY6 bid behind Clemsob currently.
Does speak to how much the names matter over the quality...& how it's gonna hurt quite a few schools if the next round of realignment does manage to pick the ACC apart

I think the original poster and many on this thread are correct. Just a lot of eyeballs in the State of FL.
However, does it really matter this days? Amazon is streaming NFL game. Most every game is on TV somewhere. Or you can just watch on your phone.
Xfinity added the ACC network where I live this year.(close to the ATL market). For me I like watching Hartman play. Kids has the it quality.

With Nancy Stank missing their QB; "it's a miracle they are still ranked at all"!
Had Leary still been healthy; I think this would be the primetime game.

ACC asked too much for ABC to pay to get rights over the game. In a business world you don't sell a product before you assess its value. I've not read the contracts ACC has with the other networks but if they took a set price before the season started they are pretty dumb.
ABC, being a fairly good network may have factored in prospective viewership and recognized that an FSU/Miami game would garner more advertising money and weighed that against the cost and profit of showing a nobody game like Wake/NCS.
Yes, demon wannabes and NC pup's treats, I insulted you.
