ACC Announces Bowl Partnerships for 2009-10 |
GREENSBORO, NC --For the second-consecutive year, the Atlantic Coast Conference has agreements in place to send nine of its member institutions to postseason bowl games. The ACC is coming off a 2008 campaign in which it sent an NCAA-record 10 teams to postseason bowl games. This year’s bowl lineup will include eight partners from a year ago and the GMAC Bowl, which is a new member in the ACC Bowl alignment.
“We are pleased to have quality bowl slots for up to nine of our teams for the 2009 football season,” said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. “It is an excellent lineup of destinations and potential opponents for our schools.” The winner of the Dr Pepper ACC Football Championship Game will serve as the host team of the FedEx Orange Bowl, unless it is ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in the final BCS Standings and is playing in the Citi BCS National Championship Game. This year’s FedEx Orange Bowl will be played on Jan. 5 at 8 pm. and will be nationally televised by FOX. Agreements also continue with long-standing partners which include the Chick-fil-A Bowl (Dec. 31, 7:30 pm), the Konica-Minolta Gator Bowl (Jan. 1, 1 pm), The Champs Sports Bowl (Dec. 29, 8 pm), the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl (Dec. 27, 8:15 pm), the Meineke Car Care Bowl (Dec. 26, 4:30 pm) and the Emerald Bowl (Dec. 26, 8 p.m.) Following a successful inaugural campaign, the EagleBank Bowl will now have the eighth pick in the selection process. This year’s game moves to a later date in the bowl season and is set to be played at RFK Stadium on December 29 at 4:30 p.m. and televised by ESPN. The only new addition to this year’s agreements is the GMAC Bowl, played in Mobile, Ala. on January 6 at 7 p.m., and televised by ESPN. If the ACC has a ninth bowl eligible team available, the GMAC Bowl will have the right to choose it. The ACC 2009 Bowl Lineup
