CLEMSON BASKETBALL

Clemson vs. Georgia Tech Notes

by -

*Clemson will enter the ACC Tournament on a three-game winning streak, all against ACC teams. This is the first time since 1964 that Clemson has won its last three league games entering the tournament.

*Vernon Hamilton's 24 points off the bench were his second highest scoring game as a Tiger. Ironically, both of his top scoring games have been off the bench. His career high is 31 against Duke in a

reserve role earlier this year. Hamilton has two of the top three

scoring games by a reserve by an ACC player this year. His 31 points against Duke are the high figure and his 24 today tied Adrian Joseph (Virginia vs. Loyola) earlier this year. Hamilton has the top two reserve scoring games against ACC teams this year.

*Clemson shot 65.6 percent from the field in the second half (21-32), the best field goal percentage for a half by a Tiger team this year and the best since the season opener against Hampton last year when Clemson shot 67.6.

*Clemson had three 20-point scorers today, as Vernon Hamilton had 24, Akin Akingbala 22 and Shawan Robinson 22. It is the first time Clemson has had three 20-point scorers in the same game since Feb.

13, 2002 when Clemson had three 20 point scorers (Chris Hobbs 24, Tony Stockman 30, Edward Scott 30) in a double overtime victory against Wake Forest.

*Akingbala and Robinson both scored 22 points on their Senior Day game. It marked the first time that two different Clemson seniors had at least 20 points on Senior Day since Feb. 28, 1970 when Butch Zatezalo scored 25 and Richie Mahaffey had 26 in a 105-95 win over Wake Forest.

*Shawan Robinson scored 39 points this week, three points in the two first halves combined and 36 in the two second halves combined.

*Robinson did not have more than four three-point goals in the first

24 games, but has now had exactly five in four of the last five games, including each game this week.

*Robinson was joined on the court after the game by the 20 students in the fifth grade class he teaches this semester at Central

Elementary in Central, SC. Robinson is student teaching this

semester to complete his degree requirements in Elementary Education.

He is on track to become the first basketball player in Clemson history to be named first-team Academic All-ACC four times.

*Vernon Hamilton became Clemson's career leader in steals with his four thefts today. He now has 196 for his career, two more than Terrell McIntyre had between 1995-99.

*Hamilton's 24 points today were the most by a Clemson underclassman on a Senior Day game since 2002 when then junior Edward Scott scored

36 in a victory over Florida State.

*Clemson overcame a halftime deficit to gain victory three times this year and two of the three came against Georgia Tech, the only two in ACC play. Clemson trailed Tech by five at halftime in the game at Georgia Tech earlier this year and by three today.

*Akin Akingbala had 22 points and 11 rebounds today, giving him 43 points and 27 rebounds for the week. It is the first time in his career that he has had back to back 20 poit games. It was his fifth double-double in the last eight games.

*Cliff Hammonds had five assists and on turnover today. Over the last three games covering 88 minutes he has 12 assists and one turnover.

*Clemson ends the regular season with 18 victories, its high total for a regular season since 1996-97 when Clemson had 21 wins entering

the ACC Tournament. The 7 ACC wins is the most by a Clemson team

since the 1997-98 team won seven in the regular season.

*Clemson is 16-8 in Senior Night games against ACC teams since 1972, a 66.7 percent winning mark. The Tigers are now 8-2 on Senior Day against Georgia Tech.

*This is the first time Clemson has won its first two games in the month of March since 1997-98 when Clemson defeated Georgia Tech on March 1 and Wake Forest on March 6 in the first round of the ACC Tournament.

*Clemson swept Georgia Tech this year, the first time the Tigers have swept the Yellow Jackets since 1996-97.

*Clemson has averaged 85.6 points per game over its last four games.

Clemson has now scored at least 86 points in three consecutive ACC games, all victories. This is the first time in Clemson history the Tigers have scored at least 86 points in three consecutive ACC

victories. Clemson scored at least 86 points in three consecutive

games in 1986-87, but one of the games was a loss (108-99 vs. North

Carolina at Clemson). This is the first time Clemson has scored at

least 86 points in any three consecutive games since the 1992-93 season.

*Clemson scored 61 points in the second half of today's game, the most points scored in a half since the Tigers scored 63 in the first half against Puerto Rico Mayaquez earlier this season Dec. 19, 2005.

*The 61 points scored in the second half were the most second half points by a Clemson team since the Tigers scored 69 in the second half against Charleston Southern in Charleston on 12-1-93.

*The 61 points in the second half were the most by a Tiger team in an ACC game since Clemson scored 66 at Virginia on Jan. 13, 1993 in a

100-82 loss.

*The 61 points in the second half were the most by a Clemson team in any half in Littlejohn Coliseum since November 30, 1991 when Clemson scored an all-time record 72 points in the second half against Morehead State.
