Bowden thinks SC needs to cheat to win against Clemson

Former Clemson coach Tommy Bowden was interviewed on ESPN Charlotte's "The Pulse" on Tuesday afternoon and shared his insights of the upcoming Palmetto Bowl on Saturday night.

Bowden shared it was easy to see what former coach Charlie Strong was going to call on defense in the series.

“I remember when Charlie Strong was at South Carolina, we got when he was going to blitz,” Bowden said. “It helps with your calls. You send a little blitz-protected pass in there.”

Bowden doesn't think that South Carolina has a shot at winning unless they cheat against Clemson.

“South Carolina needs to try to steal some signals,” Bowden said. “That’s what they need to try to do. It’s their only hope.”

Bowden thinks that Brent Venables' defensive scheme will enable the Tigers to win the rivalry game.

“You look at all the statistics and the way they’re playing. The trigger-puller (Deshaun Watson) at Clemson is a veteran, been at the Heisman ceremony in New York,” Bowden said. “South Carolina has a very talented freshmen, but Brent Venables likes pressure. Whether you’re a veteran quarterback or a rookie, he’s going to pressure you, play tight coverage and make you throw accurately. Clemson is going to play a style of defense that is going to cause problems for South Carolina on offense.”

Clemson will face South Carolina on Saturday night in Death Valley at 7:30 ET.
