Update on son of TMitch after second opinion appointment yesterday

Thank goodness we decided to go for a second opinion.

Doc found a small fracture of the talus bone that the other doc had missed on the MRI (I guess two sets of eyes are better than one).

They gave him a steroid injection to see if it will help any and to see how long it will last. Once, and if, that wears off and he still has pain they will go in arthroscopically and take out the small piece of bone that is fractured.

Poor kid has been walking around and doing weeks of PT and had a fractured ankle the entire time.

Glad to finally have some answers as to why he wasn't progressing and to have a plan in place to get him back to 100%!

Thanks for all the T's and P's yesterday!

Most doctors are quacks.

Especially the radiologists. Chiropractors with a Lite Brite fellowship.

I went to one hospital twice due to some pain and they sent me home with muscle relaxers both times. I went to another hospital when it happened again and they took out my gallbladder. Somehow Im still paying for one of the previous visits.

Glad the 2nd Orthopedist found the problem! Best wishes to your son for

a healthy recovery!

I had an Orthopedist in Shelby NC miss my torn shoulder labrum on my MRI. This Shelby Ortho Doc was very ill mannered during my visit - treated me as if I was a nuisance for even showing up for my appointment that afternoon. This jerk impatiently scrolled through my MRI and told me my shoulder pain was just "old age" and to deal with it.

Fast forward 6 months and my shoulder got progressively worse to where I couldn't raise my arm above my head. I finally said "F**k this - this ain't old age" and suspected the Shelby Ortho guy was not only a jerk but FOS.

So I took the very same MRI scans to a sports Orthopedist in Gastonia. Doc looked at the MRI for less than a minute and spotted the torn labrum - said it was very obvious in the scans. Doc Johnson did the arthroscopic surgery a month later and now I'm back to normal.

Sometimes it really does pay to get a second opinion.

We had kind of the same experience.

The first doc acted like we were bugging him coming back and asking why he wasn't getting better. Stuck to his guns that he thought it was just a bone bruise and needed time.

This new doctor had much more patience. And found the fracture in less than two minutes once he uploaded the MRI scans.

I understand that sometimes people miss stuff, but you have to be willing to admit you may have missed something and take a deeper look into it when your initial diagnosis and treatment isn't doing anything.

That would require them to admit they're fallible though

You didn't go to school for X number of years, who are you to question his expertise? That's the attitude many have, anyway.

But some doctors think they are God and God doesn't make mitsakes. :)***
