The Thompson is indeed a nice retractor- its best and most unique feature are the cranking rib retractors that make liver operations way way easier.

Me personally, if I have to be doing an open operation which is quite rare these days, I’m preferential to the Omni or the good old fashioned Bookwalter. For robotic foregut operations I use a Nathanson to lift the left liver out of the way.
