I’m sure this has been debated on here many times before but I just have a random question for all my Tnetters….
What’s the best bar in Clemson? Based on atmosphere, music, drinks, and I guess I’ll throw food in there, I would have to say TDs.
This might be an unpopular opinion but I think TDs is the best all around bar in Clemson. With Triple Ts being a close second….
What y’all think?

Today, best all around bar is Backstreets. Good selection of beer on tap, in my opinion best bar food (TDs does have better wings), and good atmosphere.

I can't relate to these newer bars since the 80's. I loved TTT back then but it's not the same as it was. The ESSO Club was also not what it is today back in the early 80's.

They had free beer from 4:00-5:00 every Friday. We'd get there early and get a seat right in front of the tap.

TTT has $2 PBR tall boys that I used to rave about a few years ago lol. PBR has never been my favorite beer but only being $2 for a 24 oz, it didn’t taste too bad.

TTT has that nasty carpet smell. It’s not good but you kinda learn to like it after some time. That smell is apart of the TTT experience now.

Sentimental favorite- Nicks. I have fond memories of sitting at the end of the bar shooting the breeze with Nick. Milton too, but Nick was a lovable old guy. I say “old” but he was almost certainly younger then than I am now. Another old favorite was the Library Club- I can’t believe nobody has mentioned it.

No doubt …….. Betty’s Lounge.
There’s a gas station there now. This was across the street from Sonny’s 123 Diner which is now Paws Diner.
Betty’s had a list on the inside of the door showing all the people that were banned. Pretty long list. Lots of Jacksons on the list. I asked the bartender and she said the Jacksons on the list covered three generations. Pretty impressive.

Western Sizzlin had the best salad bar before they closed. Ruby Tuesday has a good salad bar, as well.
If you don't mind traveling, Golden Corral has a good one. Avoid booze like the shingles.

Lester’s Tiger Den was a great hangout bar. Not so much great place to take a date or pickup chicks but very fun none the less. A friend of mine got his pickup truck stuck on the train tracks behind Lester’s. Then a train came around the corner, hit the truck and cut it in half. Then train derailed. Major drama.

Was there fall of '73 through spring of '77. My favorites were (1) Lew's, which is what we called the Esso Club back then because it was owned by a guy named Lew. Back then it was a gas station, small convenience store and a bar with about 10-15 seats. The wooden bar top had numbers burned into it and you would put your beer on a number and the bartender (Henry worked there for many years) would spin a numbered wheel and if it landed on the number your beer was sitting on you won a free beer; and (2) Nicks. Put many a quarter(s) in those pinball machines. Had pretty good food, too.

I grew up wanting to go to the TTT. So as soon as I turned 21, l strolled in. I had gone to other pool halls/ bars in my teens. Asked for quarters. They gave me Coors. Ech.... Then when I realized they didn't card, it was on like Donkey Kong.
But I still didn't go to Tiger Town till 21. Because I didn't want to chance it.

Friday afternoon happy hour at Keith Street
Slices anytime at Pappino's with Frank and Joe
Majik dogs and 9.99 cases of Busch Light at Majik Mart
There was a good wing place on the lake I forget the name though

Might not be #1 but there is entirely too little love for Loose Change on this thread. The jalapeño hush puppies might be the single best menu item in Clemson. May have to start another thread with that question.

4 Paws? Anyone remember? Was down by the Esso Club for several years in the late 70s/early 80s. Had 4 pool tables and pinball machines, great music, live bands occasionally (I played in there a few times). Fun bar!

My youngest son graduated a year ago and we went to 3T for lunch. Bartenders knew him so he had been there a lot.
We could buy kegs there when I was at Clemson.

I was at Clemson from 82-87. Spent many Thursday nights at Tiger town for their 25 cent draft pitchers! Probably almost every Thursday night. Drinking age was 18 back then. Liked the place where TD’s is now but it wasn’t called TD’s back then. But, my favorite was Bollwinkles and later it was called Crazy Zack’s. I liked the dance music better than rock.
The names Red Carpet Inn and the Genoa club are cool but I don’t remember either of them.

TTT was always a solid late afternoon choice for me. Myself and my roommates would all meet up after class and go to TTT right when they opened at 4. Some great times in there, and they have some really good, personable bartenders.

Definitely Nicks and TTT (including upstairs TTT before it was private) when in school and in the years since, but now Nicks is #1. Esso is honorable mention . Does anybody else remember (early 80s) that there was no open container law, and you could get a beer in Tiger Town, finish it on the walk to the Bookstore, get one there, and finish it on the way back to TTT. No one mentioned College Station. Weekends were crowded and not our go to, but Monday afternoon happy hour was great for movies and Long Island ice tea. Met my wife in TTT, so overall, it gets my vote for #1 all time!

I think I’ve only been to Nicks one time and this was a few years ago. I’ve always heard it described as the “graduate” bar. I went during undergrad a few years back. I was more into the upbeat bars then but I think I would really enjoy Nicks now. Gonna have to go back there soon for sure.

Wow read through 7 pages and only one mention of the Gameroom with Slug and Snake. Spent most of my Friday and Saturday nights there, although I would step over to Sloan Street and TTT occasionally. Genoa would have dollar vodka’s on Friday for happy hour. Good way to get the weekend kicked off back when life was pretty simple.
