Is IMG Academy in the Love Shack?

I may be late to the party, but trying to look through our offers/targets fore 2023 Football I did not notice any players from there. Perhaps this is a result of the the flipped trio last round?

Not sure but a high possibility with that latest incident. My only thing was we did lose a coach so it may have been as innocent as that, but thought it odd all 3 decommited.

Here's a TU for you. I feel the same way and because when I suggested such a thing a while back it didn't go over so good.

So with NIL, it's basically open season for a mercenary academy? The kids and coaches both inclined to chase the dollar? That's interesting.

Why are places like IMG Academy necessary?
Jul 8, 2022, 2:23 PM
|
|
What purpose do they serve other than to take a kid’s focus away from maturing and growing up with his lifelong peers in exchange for a total focus on football to the detriment of every other part of teenage life?
Personally, I hope we never recruit another kid who abandoned his high school and his team mates simply to respond to the lure of a football factory system.
Seems like this entire premise is the exact opposite of the culture Dabo and Clemson tries to promote.
And yes, I realize XT was a product of IMG ... but I stand by my opinion.

Due West is correct. These IMG ***** kids are committed only to themselves. I live down the street from the IMG factory, and I also disagree with premise that it is built on. This is where at with Mega teams wanting to roll over lesser competition.

Does that apply to hoops, too? There are several of those schools out there. Over half of the NBA lottery picks come from those schools. Do you not want to take any of them either?
Just asking.

Me personally? No, I want nothing to do with them. But that’s just my own opinion. I think kids should go to regular high schools with their friends and play for the local program. I don’t like the idea of these academies that are only focused on sports.

"Abandoned". Good grief. You don't know the kids, their families or the situations. You don't deserve an opinion unless you do know the situation. Ashamed to know you are from my State, much less right dow the street from me. Maybe I'm lucky and you did not attend Clemson. Focus on the issues in your life.

Due West - I agree with your post 100%.
And, I would add, Mike Jones Jr. was also a product of IMG, and look at how that situation ended here. He ended up transferring to LSU when he was projected to start for us! To your point; "the football factory mindset is mostly about ME and Clemson's football culture currently isn't a ME culture"! It's a "WE Culture" so those players who want it to all be about them likely won't do well here unless they have some type of epiphany happen to you as XT did.

This is definitely NOT what IMG is all about. IMG is a football factory.
I would be surprised if players at IMG think about classes or grades at all.

I think you’re confusing two separate operations.
What used to be called prep schools (like Fork Union) took a high school grad who didn’t quite qualify academically for a college scholarship and gave him a year after leaving high school in order to work on his grades or SAT and to continue playing ball.
The player was essentially “placed” at the prep school for a year after high school to play ball without losing a year of college eligibility.
Clemson players like Jacoby Ford spent a year at Fork Union following high school to improve his academics before spending his full four years with The Tigers.
IMG on the other hand, is simply a “high school” that specializes in gathering football talent from all over the country into one place for the specific purpose of focusing on improvement in their play on the field before they graduate.

lets be real many of those kids come from bad situations and their family doesnt have a means to foot a bill for a place like that...which then brings up recruiting...didnt think it was legal in some places to recruit kids to move out of county or in this case state to play football

If memory serves me correctly Dabo had a problem with IMG keeping coaches from other teams away from Clemson commitments. Totally true that there is no way to completely stop a coach from another team making contact, but it seems like IMG actually encouraged it and did nothing to advise/remind the players of their commitment.
No first hand knowledge, just stuff I heard listening to The Roar radio shows.

Yes we are out in them. My understanding is Clemson had a relationship with IMG (the wider organisation), paying them to help with communications, we withdraw from it and they made 3 commits move to other colleges by allowing other coaches into their facilities to talk to them (normally not allowed once they commit) and pushing them away from Clemson. Hence we are out for a certain quarterback from transferred there

We haven't gotten a sniff from any IMG players since Venables left.
That's too bad since they produce a lot of elite players.

Jul 8, 2022, 4:13 PM

... they don’t actually produce *anything* other than stealing talent while diminishing the strength of high school programs the kids grew up with.
Outfits like IMG are not legitimate schools and they are not good for high school or college sports.

Back in the day, if you had the stuff in a tiny High School town, someone would find you, and you didn't have to put money out to be found. If IMG is acting as a paid match-making service (both from kid's families and schools), and the educational component is not there (i don't know that for sure but it seems to be the least of their priorities)... that seems greasy. And I agree with you in that I don't like what it could do to local HS football and the love of the game.

Same thing happening with baseball. Know of a young lady who was just hired as a nutritionalist for a baseball academy in SoCal. There’s also a relatively new baseball academy in the Triangle area of NC.

Malik Bryant was attending IMG when Clemson offered him as a part of the 23 class
Joenel Aguero is also attending IMG I believe and he has a Clemson offer
Neither kids have Clemson in contention, but they were both offered early in June with the 23 offers

My take onn IMG is good riddance. Tell me a player that we have gotten or recruited from them who has been a difference maker? Mike Jones was a backup, finally earned playing time then saw the writing (T. Simpson) and Transferred. The 3 from last year? oh well. XT? We shall see as this is a male or break year for his future, but suffice to say, he hasn't lived up to his high rank nor his potential minus one big(albeit awesome) hit on a Cuse QB. Furthermore, while they have a few guys in the NFL, they have not been NEARLY the NFL factory that several public-ish schools in TX, Florida, California and Ohio are. I say ish as we know Mater Dei, St John's Bosco etc all basically recruit, but they usually do it early, middle school on in MA y cases. IMG is not the mega star producer many, myself included once thought.

The Clemson IMG guys haven’t panned out, but there’s examples all around the country of kids who are really good players from IMG.
And Clemson is still offering IMG kids, they offered two from the ‘23 class.
