Worst car you've ever driven.

Jul 8, 2015, 12:35 PM

Parameter. Not some car you eventually beat the hell out of or was a hand-me-down first car.

The Nissan Sentra I rented last weekend takes the cake. While it was pretty much brand new, having less than 2000 miles when I turned it in, it sucked. All but the AC which was awesome. Seemingly no power, very jerky movements, very uncomfortable. Hell it didn't even have a viable arm rest.

Fiat 500 we rented in Vegas.

Jul 8, 2015, 12:37 PM

Never...and I mean NEVER leave the wife in charge of car rentals.

ringofhonor-rhtig.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I didn't even get the cheapest care possible.

Jul 8, 2015, 12:39 PM

I got to the counter and was offered the Sentra or a Carrola. I know how much I dislike Carrolas. This really was no better.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's what I try to get when I'm in Houston.

Jul 8, 2015, 1:12 PM [ in reply to Fiat 500 we rented in Vegas. ]

BECAUSE YOU ALWAYS KNOW WHICH CAR IS YOURS IN A PARKING LOT!!!

That is the #1 requirement in car renting.

Chevy Cobalt.

Jul 8, 2015, 12:38 PM

One of the few cars I've seen where putting a dead hooker in the trunk would be an improvement.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This...pretty much any Chevy sedan that rental car companies

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Probably the Chevy Cruz...Although I had a Traverse

Jul 8, 2015, 12:39 PM

once that seemingly had the power of a golf cart and would almost get you killed trying to merge into traffic.

You ever driven in Texas? I think You'd like it.

Jul 8, 2015, 12:48 PM

I saw a posted speed limit of 80 at one point. Mostly, they don't bother to post speed limits at all. I'd go miles without seeing one.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Once, only around San Antonio

Jul 8, 2015, 12:53 PM

Speed limit should be 80 on most highways and interstates.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-15yr.jpgringofhonor-lakebum1-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I agree, as long as I'm not in a Sentra that

Jul 8, 2015, 12:54 PM

is having a hard time getting to that speed. It did fine when I got up there, but took far too long to do so.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I went well over 100 MPH every single day for two weeks

Jul 8, 2015, 2:07 PM [ in reply to You ever driven in Texas? I think You'd like it. ]

when I had to go work in New Mexico. Traveling long stretches of desolate highway between the little towns where I called on accounts, pushing the rental cars to their very limit was the only way to get where you were going in time to get anything done. After a while, going 35 in town was starting to make my brain explode because it felt like I was sitting still.

Re: Worst car you've ever driven.

Chevy Equinox and it's not even close.

The 4-cylinder that my mom has is a sluggish, top-heavy death trap that I would not recommend for anyone who likes a proactive driving experience.

Chevy HHR rental, 2004-ish timeframe?

Jul 8, 2015, 12:44 PM

Complete and total POS.
No interior room (granted, this was back in the fatjroberts days).
Seats were not comfortable (granted, this was back in the fatjroberts days).
Took forever to warm up enough in December to deliver heat (had to rely on fatjroberts insulation for warmth).
No engine pep and go (granted, this was back in the fatjroberts days).
And it was just entirely plasticky on the inside (has nothing to do with jroberts being fatjroberts back then).

82 CJ7

Jul 8, 2015, 12:47 PM

It shakes and rattles and stalls out for no reason when it's cold. In the summer you sweat your balls off the entire time because there's no A/C. But I love that thing. It sucks to drive and I would not have it as my daily driver ever again, but for cruising around Clemson you can't beat it.

As the former owner of a 79 CJ7

Jul 8, 2015, 12:57 PM

I miss the helloutta that thing. 3 spd straight stick on the floor, drove like a Panzer tank. A/C? Ain't nobody got time fo dat. It was an indestructible beast, and in the event that something did go wrong, it was about as simply made as a lawnmower, I could usually do it myself.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They're super easy to work on.

Jul 8, 2015, 1:01 PM

The only things I didn't do were the brakes (because I wanted to make sure they were done right so I wouldn't die) and the clutch which required you to drop the transmission which I did not have the facilities to handle in Clemson. I love that thing, and will not be selling it anytime soon even though it spends most of the time parked in the barn right now.
