If he had been born 20 years later, and played in today’s NFL, dude woulda been a $40M/year NFL MVP candidate QB. He was at least as good as Lamar and a heckuva a lot better than Kyler Murray. It’s crazy how much football has changed since then.

Woody was awesome at Clemson, and played around the same time as Mike Vick....who had the legs & arm for NFL.
I do not think he had the arm talent that Murray or Jackson has, but he definitely had the quickness to burn defenders in college...loved watching him play, but overall his arm was not good enough to play next level.

I remember him coming in against GT at Grant Field and taking the starting position that day. BUT, Randall Cunningham was in the NFL and Vick coming soon, so if he had the arm? Yes, but he didn’t.

As many players have found out there is a huge difference between high and college ball and a much bigger difference between college and the NFL.

He had enough of an arm to hit Rod Gardner in the closing minutes of the 2000 game against the chickens!👍

TRUTH!
But honestly, he didn’t have the arm to throw a 10-12 yard out across the field from the far hash like all these guys playing on Sunday can do.

I don't know all of the criteria the NFL uses to analyze players, especially QB's but in my opinion,Taj Boyd was a very, very good college QB and I don't understand why he didn't make it in the NFL.

I think it's a combination of things.
The Jets had Rex Ryan and TB10 was a 6th RD pick cut at the end of preseason. The Jets went 4-12 that year so my thought offhand was he was just drafted to the wrong situation.
That said, he got one more chance with Pittsburgh the next year but was also cut so my guess offhand is that he wasn't able to cut it on the mental side of being an NFL QB.
Beautiful deep ball thrower and I wonder if he had been drafted a few years later if it would've worked out better because it seems like the spread started becoming more of a thing in the later half of the 2010s.

He wasn't in the same zip code as either Jackson or Murray.
If he was anywhere near as good as those guys he'd have been in the NFL for quite some time.

Woody is my all time favorite Clemson Player. He might have a better shot today if his arm was good enough. He never had a shot at NFL QB when he came out because of his height. Mobile QBs in his day were still taller than Woody. Vick was listed at 6’0 and was noticeably taller than Woody. McNabb and Cunningham were both over 6’2. His height would have disqualified him from many teams back then. Now you have Murray and Young up there at 5’9.
