Why not a Big 16?

Something like this would make a lot of sense ... much more than joining the Big 12 as is.
South - Clemson, FSU, Miami, Georgia Tech
North - WVU, Louisville, Cincinnati, Iowa State
Midwest - Kansas, K-State, OU, OSU
Southwest - Texas, TCU, Texas Tech, Baylor
If the SEC wants to go to 16, it could take VT and NCSU (or Notre Dame). The ACC and Big East could merge and create a hoops-dominated conference.

I'd be much more in favor of a move if they could go to 14 or 16 and cut down on travel.

BYU and ND added instead of Cincy and Louisville. All else stays the same.
The TV deal from a 16 team conference with ND in a pod, Texas in a pod, OU in a pod, and FSU/Miami/Clem/GT as a pod would be insane, to the point it may work with ND.
Plus if this league is really open to private team networks, maybe thats the answer for ND somehow worked in with NBC.

I'm hearing the Big 12 will take Louisville along with FSU, Clemson and at least one other team. Notre Dame is actively being sought by several entities, especially as their TV contract is up for renewal within the immediate future. Texas doesn't want an immediate sixteen member conference due to revenue sharing, but their administration ultimately know this arrangement is coming eventually, especially with ESPN and other outlets behind it.
