Why I prefer the ACC

Jun 1, 2012, 2:28 PM

I will support Clemson no matter what conference we are in, but after weeks of pondering potential conference change, let me simply say this:

The Big 12 has a crappy name, is losing ground, and is not geographically close enough (at least not yet).

The SEC covers a geographical area full of redneck, backwoods, educationally-challenged people. The residents of those states are not all that way, but Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, and Louisiana are not exactly leading the charge academically in this country. As we say when discussing South Carolina's traditionally low testing scores: "Thank God for Mississippi and Arkansas".

Clemson can win championships from the ACC (conference and national) and the fans of our competition are a lot more sophisticated than that of the SEC.

(I recognze that there are lots of generalizations in my statements, but I'm proud of Clemson and the caliber student it attracts and the caliber student-athlete we compete against.)

GO TIGERS!!!!

Or are you rely being sarcastic and I missed the guy who actually said "curve stomped"? I'd really hate if I missed that.

I agreed with you but to a point...Money...Lots of money it

Jun 1, 2012, 2:43 PM

take to run a highly sucessfull athletic program. Right now it has appear that Clemson is falling behind in terms of making money to our Rival SC and the most of the major schools of the SEC and to our sorry baby blue bellies snobs in Chapel Hill.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

really..fans of our competition are a lot more sophisticated

did you really say that?

Re: really..fans of our competition are a lot more sophisticated

Jun 1, 2012, 3:14 PM

It does seem more ACC fans enjoy sitting down to pee.

Does that equal sophistication?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Just one of many indicators.

Jun 1, 2012, 4:06 PM

Being able to understand what the fans are saying is another.

Understanding what a game of the century is (and is not) is yet another.

Inbreeding is another.

Not knowing if your mascot is a tide or an elephant is another.

Feel free to add to the list.

Calling yourself the Big 12 when you have 9 or 10 teams is another. (being able to count)

Re: Just one of many indicators.

Jun 1, 2012, 4:14 PM

Being in the ACC and having your divisions named "Atlantic" and "Coastal", which mean essentially the exact same thing.

Adding Syracuse and claiming it gets you the "New York City" market.

Not trying to $hit on your point, just saying we're guilty of it too.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Or the Big Ten when you have 12.

Jun 1, 2012, 5:54 PM [ in reply to Re: Just one of many indicators. ]

This isn't exclusive to the Big 12.

Read Mickey's blog, the part about the playoff money...

Jun 1, 2012, 2:44 PM

and the ramifications if that money gets divided only between the conference with teams in the playoff.

If that's the case, which it very well could be, then staying in the ACC is a bad decision by Clemson.

I believe S. Carolina does not spend much as much money on public education as other States ... also, the State obviously does not believe in spending money on Highway beautification either!

Some people can't handle the truth.

Jun 1, 2012, 4:50 PM

I'm just fed up with all the "SEC is the best" talk. The bottom of the ACC is superior to the vast majority of SEC schools - academically. And yes, these college exist to provide an education. Our society has totally lost sight of the true meaning of student-athlete. And for Cam Newton to get away with selling himself to the highest bidder is a discrace for the SEC and NCAA.

... so there.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Actually, if the upstate was its own state,

Jun 1, 2012, 4:46 PM

we would do very well nationally. Its the lowcountry that kills us from an educational standpoint.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That is true.

Jun 1, 2012, 4:52 PM

And Clemson continues to attract the smartest kids.

It's not so much the lowcountry, but the I-95 corridor

Jun 1, 2012, 5:18 PM [ in reply to Actually, if the upstate was its own state, ]

Which runs from the backwoods of the lowcountry (Jasper, Colleton) up through the midlands (Clarendon, Sumter, Lee) and throughout the Pee Dee (Florence, Darlington, Dillon). The middle class kids in those counties do fine, but there are a ton of kids in poverty and they do not.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: It's not so much the lowcountry, but the I-95 corridor

Jun 1, 2012, 5:20 PM

not many folks aware of the crushing poverty for so many in that area.....its certainly reflected in a lot of the primary and secondary educational shortcomings
