Georgia's Kirby Smart agreed to a deal this week that moved him back to the No. 1 spot with an annual salary of $13 million.

Clemson's Dabo Swinney had moved back into the top spot with Nick Saban's retirement this past year, with Swinney making $11 million this year.

According to the AP: "Smart got a bump in salary of $1.75 million annually as part of the deal, which ties him to the Bulldogs through 2033. He could also receive up to $1.55 million per year in bonuses based on the new 12-team playoff structure, an increase from $1.3 million under the previous terms."

He was also the top-paid coach going into the 2022 season.

How does that salary rank per arrest? If Dabo makes $11 million and has 2 team arrests that $5.5 million per arrest. If Smart makes $13 million and has 10 team arrests, that's $1.3 million per arrest.

Are there any contract penalties for less than 50% graduation or over 2 arrests?

These salaries have really gotten absurd. The average for NFL HCs in 2023 was $6.6mil. Kirby's salary is higher than the bottom 3 NFL salaries combined. I
His salary is higher than the entire coaching staff on multiple NFL teams. The average NFL coaching staff not including the HC is $5.5mil.

That said, these are State owned universities paying those type of salaries. I understand that Dabo's state income salary is only like $240k, but add $11mil on top of that. When the schools start paying NIL like UVA just approved, I assume all of their state paid NIL funds will be public knowledge at that point.

They are making what they are worth.... the market is willing to pay it. Thats how much a national championship means to a school, recruiting, and not to mention the bump in applications for the university.

Sad but true fact of life....
