I had never been to a Clemson game before college.
I'm envious of all the people who came from Clemson families and grew up going to games. Therefore, I'm going to do my best to make sure my son gets all those experiences!

Coach Frank Howard was the coach and I think the first year I can remember being in Death Valley for a game might've been in 1965. I remember the football schedule that you'd see posted in Jake's Barber Shop on College Avenue said "skin'em alive in 65" and I think my first game may have been against Wake Forest. I got in for 50 cents on Band Day. On homecoming, you could get in for a quarter!!!

I was at that game and the Tiger's locker room was in Fike Field House. The Tigers walked from there to "The Hill" which was a pretty good hike! Then they gathered at the top of "The Hill" just as they do now, rubbed the "Rock" and down "The Hill" they came! Awesome memories!!!

I remember watching it at grandma's house and how upset dad was that we let it get away as we did with a botched punt attempt at the very end (see GT in 2004?). I also remember knowing that Billy Cannon (now in prison, maybe has died) won the heisman and single handedly beat Ole Miss in the famous Halloween night game. Also well remember the next year when we beat TCU in inaugural (I think) Bluebonnet Bowl.

I think that was also the year of the 2 point conversion with Condredge Holloway scrambling and at least 2 Tn linemen in the end zone at end of game and we lost 29-28. Should have been 15 yard penalty for illegal receiver downfield. We were rooked. Next year we lost again 21-19 with a bunch of other questionable calls. Should have won both.

Actually it was miserable to listen to and take. May have kept us out of bowl game that year. Finished 7-4 by thrashing UNC and SCar. Of course Stanley Morgan being from nearby Easley did not help. Supposedly he could not get into Clemson (?).

Failed to note that my first game in Death Valley was as a freshman in 1946. Actually my first game to see the Tigers was in 1940 (before Death Valley)while my older brother was a cadet. The largest players weighed about 200 pounds and as a 10 year old, I thought they were monsters.

Attended games under Howard, Ingram, and Parker. First game I remember attemnding specifically was Clemson Vs Notre Dame (1977). My seat was on a tree limb behing the bleachers on the Hill end of the field.

Joe Montanna , Ross Browner , Vegas Fergusson and those golden domes with the sun glinting off them in the afternoon sun . Steve Fuller and company , I believe we had them untill a late fumble. Went up to South Bend the next year and beat them with Fuller's back up (cant remember his name now for the life of me )

I remember Dan Devine walking almost to the middle of the field and received an unsportsmanlike penalty. That fired up the Irish and they drove for the winning TD.

Ken McAfee told my father something to the effect of: "sir, i've never been hit so hard in my life...that #98 knocked the hell out of me all day". #98 was Mark Heniford, a 195 lb. DE who played hard as hell all the time....that game broke my heart as a young 9 year old but i fell in love with the Tigers that day in spite of my lifelong ND fan father. i got Jonathan Brooks' mouth piece that day and still have it.....

I was about 7 years old. We beat GT 33-12. Donnell Woolford had a couple of punt returns for a touchdown.
My first road game:
1989: Clemson 45 Scar 0
Not many people can say that they witnessed 45-0 and 63-17 in person. Those are my two greatest Clemson memories!

1958 Frank Howard. Hot day. Dad took us under a tree located where HC seating is now adjacent to west zone on south side. Never forgot it. Never will.

Danny Ford.
Don't know the exact year, but it was late 80's against furman.
The next game was the maryland game that was the same day as fsu's original wide right game. Maryland scored first, then Clemson shut them down and lit up the scoreboard like it was a multiball pinball game.

Man, based off of some peoples posting history I thought I was one of the older members around here. Seems like its quite the opposite!
Also worth mentioning, I had never attended a college game until I was enrolled in college.

Tommy Bowden. Clemson vs. NC 2003. Didn't have much money growing up and living over 3 hours away, it was hard to come by. Lucky for me, I have an Uncle that used to "get the hookup" and got me some tickets for the game.
