Well.Net ( . ) ( . )

Jan 23, 2018, 8:20 PM

Here's the situation:

We are on a well.

We have a steady supply of water.

Water pressure holds steady at 20 psi.

Pressure switch does not make.

Pump stays on 24/7.

This occurs when the main supply line to the house is shut.

Pump pulls 7.5A, fairly steady.

I'm a fairly handy guy (read: very handy). I think I have one of the following: bad pump seal, cracked pipe going to the pump, or some other issue that requires me to pull the pump.

Tomorrow night I will be pulling up the pump and checking to see ### is going on.

Tonight I will just sit here and drink my BA Ten Fidy.

This really sucks a big one.

Pressure switch contactors are staying pulled in because it won't make the minimum pressure. The pump is running, so the pressure switch is doing its job.

What is the minimum pressur before it is supposed to cut off

Jan 24, 2018, 10:52 AM

You've got a leak on the supply side somewhere.

I think it is set for 60/80 psi or something in that area. It's not even close to hitting it.

I've verified all of the supply line until it goes underground, hence my need to venture into the abyss to continue my troubleshooting.

I should be able to use my mini-excavator to help pull the pump out. Tie it off to the bucket and lift, secure the pipe, lower the bucket, re-rig, and repeat. Easy-peasy.

Considering the weather we just had...

Good luck. You’re definitely replacing something.

My discharge line on my sump pump that catches condensate, froze and I burned up my sump pump. (Old house with old stuff.) I had a backup pump which I installed. But I need to switch over to the new pump that arrived almost a week ago. I’ve been putting it off to do the same thing as you... drink beer. It’ll get done eventually.

That is a surprisingly sober and coherent response, mr. 7spots.

Only 20 PSI?

Sounds like you're not getting enough head from the pump.

If you asked me 4 years ago I could have designed your hole pump head for you. My senior capstone project was designing a pump station for a waste water treatment plant
