Watching UnC play Villanova makes me wonder why Brad schedules the way he does.

Thru 5 games we won’t have played a single team ranked better than 72.
Kenpom rankings going into Alcorn State. Alcorn st 277 Winthrop 148 Davidson 108 UAB 92 Boise st 72
In December we play Radford 159 Queens 238
What does playing bad teams really do for our team? Good, or even decent teams don’t play schedules like this - why do we? Do these cupcakes prepare Clemson for the conference schedule or simply pad our wins? Why not substitute half of those games with teams in the top 50? This would prepare us for the Bama and TCU games and then help us with SOS when it is tournament time. JMO anyway.

Brad and every other coach have nothing to do with out of the country tournaments. Off shore events rotate teams and much of it is controlled by television.

Yep nothing good can come from scheduling those games. Expected to win, and it would be a big issue in the grand scheme of seeding if we lost.

I’d like to see us play some bigger name teams. In the grand scheme of things, the schedule is a little strongee this year. Can’t imagine it could be worse. UNC and Nova are big names, but it’s not like they made the tournament last year. I’m sure that made ESPN & CBS very sad.

He not play big names OOC unless it’s in a tournament. He wants to try to stock pile wins only.

Are you really trying to make a case that Boise state is a great win? So, beating the 72nd ranked team is good for you? Definitely better than losing - but clearly not a signature win. You failed to discuss the overall issue of playing cupcakes to get us ready to play big boy basketball. Just padding stats is not the answer.

The other team has to want to play us as well.
I doubt a Villanova would sign up to play us with offers from a bunch of national brands and tournaments already

After Alcorn we play 5 pretty good teams that should test us.

Brownell spoke about scheduling a higher rated preseason tournament or getting better competition when we played the Big10 challenge, but it’s easier said than done. This preseason will be getting a bit more beef over the next couple weeks. Right now, be happy they haven’t stubbed their toe against this early slate of teams.

Of course Brad has control and strong influence over non conference games. He also has control over holiday tournaments. Why would you think he does not?

Yea Barnes had put together a few seasons of bigger name OOC games. Remember playing Kentucky on occasion.

Pretty obvious seeing who we are playing. Does UNC and Duke schedule this many cupcakes? Lose to better teams is not going to kill you and in the long run should make you better. If I was a recruit I would want to play the best period. Couple of more nationally televised games would not hurt the program either.

UNC plays 4 teams in the non conference that made the tourney last year. They play 5 small schools
We also play 4 teams in the non conference that made the tourney last year. We play 6 small schools. We play an extra because davidson beat maryland in the tournament so we didnt get to play them. Maryland was an ncaa participant last year.

Unc playing Villanova Arkansas Tennessee UCON Oklahoma All before January.
Compare that to who we play before Jan. Not sure why you think they compare at all.

We play Alabama, TCU, Memphis, and Boise State was a tournament team the last two years. We've made a concerted effort to play a harder early season schedule. We also got unlucky when Maryland lost to Davidson -- that was going to be another top team we played.
You are consistently one of the worst posters on this board.
