Van Halen or Van Hagar?

Which do you prefer?
I think the old Van Halen rocked a bit more, but Diamond Dave's screaming kinda wore on me by the time he left. Sammy could actually sing AND play and gave them more depth, IMHO.
If all you know are the singles/hits, or you're just talking about the live show, then I think most would say Van Halen, but if you listen to the full albums, Van Hagar rocked pretty good, too. I think he gave Eddie a lot more to work with.
If I had to pick between the two - which I'd have to or get to listen to full albums of - I'd go with Van Hagar.

Van Halen before Sammy, no doubt.

Now if you're talking AC/DC Bon Scott or Brian Johnson, that gets a little more difficult.

Agreed, Bon had the perfect voice for that band, just not the sobriety.

Not sure I can give an honest answer while being completely sober.
Will check back in later.
Early thoughts are Van Halen . . . . but can't be definitive.

Karaoke! I even sang it with the band who performed at our 10 year class reunion.
I do like songs from Van Hagar.

A girl I was dating won tickets and back stage passes to one of the shows. It was either the Diver Down or the 1984 tour (I can't remember which). David Lee Roth was completely wasted and a total ######### to the fans. Before he came into the room, one of his handlers came in and told everyone not to approach him, not to touch him, and not to talk to him unless he engaged with you first. He walked into the room with a cigarette in his mouth and a drink in his hand. He signed a couple of autographs without saying a word to anyone before he turned around and walked out. I doubt he was in the room for more than 60 seconds.

I saw them 2x before Dave got gone. They started out more raw and only began to lose that with 1984, but when Hagar showed up, though not quite as raw, they had some really good stuff. Though Dave was born a showman, he was a sort I really didnt/dont care for - too easy to get too much of him. So, I guess I go with Hagar, but its close.
Why didnt you ask about Cherone?

Sammy Hagar was an admirable lead man, but Van Helen with David Lee Roth was rockin'.
