Good morning everyone how was your weekend?

Friday, got to stop working about an hour early because a moving truck knocked down a power pole, sat out in the yard and watched the guys work. They had the new one up in 2 and a half hours, maybe less. It was an impressive show once it got started.
Saturday, got on the road, went to the Field of Dreams site then on to Louisville for a nap.
Sunday, up and going too early for the Louisville liquor stores so headed down to Four Roses Distillery to look around. This was not well planned enough to do a tour or tasting but got a bottle, then back on to get back to SC.

Friday - got some sammiches from Columbo's. They were semi-adequate.
Sattidy - Ingles to get stuff for dinner (grilled dead chicken). Then the phone went out. Everything worked fine except making and receiving calls (kinda impotent for a phone). Spent 2 hours at Verizon. Another dood came in with the same phone, same issue. Turns out it was a Google push that blocked calls. Got it fixed.
Sunday - took the boat out for a spin, went to the marina for lunch and gas.
5/10 (9.5/19 on the RH Covids scale). minus 6 for Google, plus 1 for Verizon tech support.

Did a lot of bush hogging

Daughter had her first Volleyball game Friday night. Team lost, but she did really good. 9U volleyball is about as exciting as you would expect... especially first game of the year after 3 or 4 practices.
Dinner at Real Mexico.
Wife had a stomach bug all weekend.
Swam in the pool a good bit.
Yanked my crank a few times.
Wrapped up season 1 of All American.

How aggravating is it to hook up your bush hog?

My old Kubota was pretty easy. The stabilizer? was adjustable by sliding and putting in a pin.
The John Deere I got now, requires a hammer, sweat, two adjustables, channellocks, and 20 mins of labor. I hate it.

My dad can't do it.
He called my brother to help. I think it took them all afternoon.
I can do it in about 4 minutes.
But I'm GOOD like that. I carry some sort of large screwdriver/pry bar and a hammer with me just in case, though...
Went through about 5 shear pins this weekend, aka grade 5 1/2" bolts. Lots of gum trees...

I ain't had none of that. I cut some stuff too, going in the woods making lanes so I cut a bunch of small trees and chop up rocks and old pine stumps.

Where the cardan shaft slides on to the input shaft

of the bush hog gearbox. Some are keyed, I assume. Some have clutches, that I've seen. Ours has a 1/2" hole that goes through the universal joint, and through the input shaft of the bush hog. You slide the u joint over the input shaft, line them up, and throw the bolt in there. It's supposed to be a tight fit, so that if you hit something really big, the bolt will shear instead of trashing the gearbox or twisting the shaft.
Only time we'd sheared one before was when Daddy ran over 20' of logging chain and wrapped it up in the bush hog.
Problem is that the outer holes on the u-joint have some slop in them, so the added backlash/slop makes it 100X easier to shear the bolt.

Even if they aren't perfect...I LIKE WEEKENDS.

Friday, Mrs. was working an event on the island, so I went to visit RH Mom, came home and dressed up a frozen pizza, drank a few beers, and watched the entire Panties game for some reason. Maybe I missed football more than I thought.
Saturday, tried to be lazy but the chest-high grass in the yard was taunting me. Got motivated and cut and trimmed the entire estate. Figured I would help my neighbor out and cut his yard since he has a contract job in Miami and hasn't been home in almost three months. Whichever family member had been doing it for him hasn't shown up since he's been gone and it was out hand. He's helped me out on numerous occasions so it was time to return the favor. Got done late afternoon, cleaned up and Mrs. and I headed over to RH Mom for a bit before our 109th quarterly Supper Club gathering. Had great tacos at Casa Tequila. Everybody decided to call it a night early except for me and one other (Mrs. had to be on the island to park cars for the disc golf tournament at 6 am) so buddy and I rode to a dive bar in Fort Mill to watch one of Rock Hill's longest running bands play and had a blast. Got in the bed close to 2:00.
Sunday, coffee, coffee, coffee. Slight hangover but got all the house chores on my list completed, made grocery run. Mrs. got home from the island a little after 5:00 so I ran over to visit RH Mom for a bit, then came home to do the fantasy football draft with work people that I got wrangled into and didn't really want to do. That took way longer than I thought and killed the entire night. I had the 13th pick out of 14 teams and thought I ended up with a mediocre team at best in spite of the post-draft e-mail from Yahoo grading me as the best draft of the 14 and the only team that got an A. I guess we'll see.
18.90/19 Covids, Supper Club is always a great time, discovered a cool new dive bar I'd never been to, and got to see some old friends play live music.

Boring for the most part BUT, i did get to watch College Football on TV. Man, Nebraska sucks. Don't ask them how their weekend was!

Had an okay night with neighbors Friday and throwing back beers. Cruised around and met my new Mexican neighbors (a more detailed post on that adventure to come).
Saturday, felt like crap most of the day. Realized that evening that I was probably getting sick. Canceled all plans; even though vaccinated, hoped it wasn't the VID.
Sunday, felt better waking up and got progressively better throughout the day. Consulted a doc about whether I should get tested and she said based on what I told her, no, it was a waste of time. Just lounged around the house and did chores instead.

Friday - Birthday. I had Carbs for my birthday; went to an Italian restaurant, and came home and fell asleep in my chair.
Saturday - a few beers at the pool, nothing too eventful in the evening
Sunday - Did some work around the house. Got some ice cream from Golden Cow, and watched The Italian Americans documentary.
Pretty laid back.

Friday - kids and I went to neighbors for pizza with their kids. Wives went and got all wine drunk and stumbled home.
Saturday - made some amazing chocolate chip pancakes. Listened to my wife that never drinks tell me how bad her hangover is and how she is never drinking again. Went to a friends pool party, drank a lot of Corona Light. Kids had a blast and were exhausted. Hot dogs and hamburgers were dinner.
Sunday - church, home depot, pool, drove to Columbus

Supper at the boss’ house. They got a new wireless router and in exchange for meatloaf, broccoli, and mashed taters with spiced apple cake and ice cream for dessert I set it up for them.
Saturday yard work until too hot then started The Defeated on tha ‘Flix then come computer work for job #3. Had a glorious meatloaf sammich for supper thanks to the care package Mrs. Boss sent home with me.
Sunday typical day with mom. One of her good friends joined us. She’s moving in with her son to help with the grandkids in Atlanta soon and mom wanted to see her before she left. I mostly sat and listened to them talk about people I’d never heard of.

HOT and fattening. And restful.
Aug 30, 2021, 8:51 AM
|
|
Friday - ran a couple of errands before going home. Big dinner. Usually don't eat that big but Mrs. PAW signed up for Hello Fresh so it was a big ol' fattening dinner and Ted Lasso afterwards.
Satdee - broke bad from the jump. This was documented earlier. Karate. LFC vs. CFC. CFC are playing 4D chess in the EPL and this one would have been 5-0 without the red card. Went to the pool but it was so hot the water wasn't refreshing and it was hot in the shade. Yuck. Did watch a great flick - The Intouchables with Omar Sy. Dew. Wreck.
Sunday - All excited (sorta) about F1 and what a let down. Online church. Haircut. Chilled hard. Read some books. In bed before 2100. Popped dat melatonin. Sleep goooooood.

Watched a bit of gameday Saturday because it was on. Chortled lustily at Nebraska. Watched last part of NCCU win over Alcorn. Football is back.
Had a few drinks Saturday night and tons of yard work Sunday.
Chatted with my neighbor who is recently widowed after wife's long illness. He is selling his house and moving to NC to live with his 'ladyfriend'. Very happy for him.

Good. Friday night was burgers and bourbon

Saturday was rocket day for cub scout. He launched his rocket probably 30 times. Came back home and wife left to do something. She came back, I did some work for about 3 hours. Saturday night was chicken bewbs and bourbon. Sunday was church, then wife did something, then I went and bought/installed the last Brother printer in Columbia. Went to the grocery store, only out of 8 of our normal essentials (mostly stuff kids like). Supper was Jersey Mike's as I got back too late to cook.
Heads up - Shortage of Brother printers is approaching....Office Max hasn't received any in weeks. Had one in one location in Columbia. Amazon had some, but limited stock on most models.

Went to Clemson

Wife had mouth surgery Thursday
She was out of office Friday in pain.
Drove her to Clemson with kids on Saturday. She had a Women's Alumni Council meeting. We went to 12-mile Creek Public Access and I drank miller lites while the kids swam. Picked wife up, went downtown, visited campus, drove home.
Sunday up for church but left early after sunday school. Lunch then home to the pool. Got a call that the middle kid is a "close-contact" so he is out of school all week with me at home. YAAYYYY! He was a close contact last Monday, but we didn't hear about it until Sunday afternoon.
He tested negative this morning, now I have a project due at 5:00 and a kid who needs some entertaining.

Friday: Guided Red through maintaining the pork butt on the grill throughout the day. Ended up getting it off the grill 14 hours later, let rest in the Yeti for another hour, then pulled it. Turned out great.
Saturday: Ran some errands and finished unpacking. My family came into town to see the new house and pig out on some pork and sides. My sisters family all had COVID about three weeks ago, so they are all going on about "how bad it wasn't" and "its really not as big of a deal as the media is making it out to be". Meanwhile, my sisters father in law is in the ICU with double pneumonia from COVID. You know, all a scam, and I had to listen to this most of the day. These folks are insane, but I love them because theyre family.
Sunday: replaced a gutter outside miter that was in tough shape at the new house and pulled up some plants the previous owner had put down in the backyard in preparation for aeration and seeding. Previous owner was a widow and clearly didn't clean out the gutters or tend to the yard, much, so I am making up for about a year of lost time. We had a resident mole the first week, but I am 99.9% confident Ellie chased it off after she cornered it under the porch. Haven't seen him, or a new tunnel, since, so I think we're in good shape. Walked across the street to the second neighborhood pool to grab some dinner from "Bomb ### Sandwiches" food truck. Spent way too much on average food, but food truck sunday is a nice perk to the new community. A neighbor dropped off a batch of chocolate chip cookies to welcome us to the neighborhood. I think her secret ingredient was ivermectin, cause these things flew off the shelf.

Friday: friend came on with MfOjr. for the weekend. Thought I lost my wallet again when it feel in sink. About to panic for 2nd time in two weeks. Cooked pizza, then went swimming at night. Came home and played PS4 with them until it was time for bed.
Saturday: Woke up, cooked breakfast, went got gas, woke boys up, took them to Carowinds, it was HOT, rode as many rides as possible, went to Water park, rode more rides, left, stopped for Messican, got home, kids continued to play in living room and his bed room, Jr. came running as he had pulled a tooth, looked in his room, IT'S A TOTAL F-ing MESS. Watched end of race! Daddy wore out, finally BED!!
Sunday: Went to store, realized I had to work today (didn't win lottery), started cleaning up living room floor (about 200 Hot Wheel cars), took boys fishing, came home cooked them lunch, took boy home and son to his mom's . Went home cleaned his room, washed clothes and found out dryer switch bad, went to pond to check on pumpkins and hook up bush hog with tractor, didn't cooperate, decided to call it a day and drink some beer!!! Finally lights out and bed!!!!

Mine involved deskunking a dog

Actually, the true excitement was chasing said dog, a jet-black Lab/Hound mix, at 5AM when she got out of the house and starting tracking the #### thing like I was behind her on horseback or something! Anyway. luckily, she kept looking back periodically to make sure I was following her...which I was, barely ...so I could see my headlamp reflecting in her eyes from 40 ft away.
I finally caught her when she found a grassy spot covered in skunk spray...and promptly stopped, dropped and rolled around. Hence...the deskunking bath.
that was after I put her in the sunroom, locked the door and went back to sleep for 3 hours.

Did you find out that the old tomato juice bath is a myth?

I did. The one time it happened to a dog of mine.

that did the trick.
In the last few years we've learned that that also works for urine stains on mattresses (and cheap mattress protectors are cheap for a reason). Thank goodness that period in life is over.
