Okay. Seems to be entirely a defensive skilled resume. So perhaps @dhood can shed some light on what exactly does the special assistant to the head coach do?

Anyway, welcome to the good guys.

Understanding why Dabo hired him is one thing, but agreeing with the hire is another whole issue. Personally, I hate the idea of having a long time coot coach planted behind a desk at Clemson just doesn't fit well with me, and every time I see him I will see a coot, and any Clemson that he puts on should burned while he is taking it off!!!

Coach in waiting, Dabo must expect one of the coaches to leave in the next year or so.

Dabos coaching tree adding another branch.

This may end up being a good hire if Coach Reed gets plucked. I've said many times Coach Reed is underpaid and underrated. My guess is he will look to become a DC in a major program sooner than later. He's been on staff for a long time.

Coach Reed is who I am thinking this is about. . .

Ward has been a part of some very good defenses. He is also a good recruiter. If you can recruit good players to a dumpster fire like a couple of stops he has been to: "you should have no problems at Clemson"!

Coach Reeds name has been tied to BC too many times recently for him to not be looking. He has done nothing but brought in players who went on to the league or were high rated players in our defensive backfield. So, having a plan in place before he leaves is a great idea.

Thanks to both of you. I think y'all answered my question. Get him on, learn our system, help recruit. Coach in waiting. Makes sense now.

This doesn’t seem like a “friends and family” hire. This man has been around for a while and I think he must be a pretty good coach. Proof of that would be his record with the coots. As I recall the years between 2009 and 2015 were pretty good years for them.

My bro texted me about the hire and said they can’t wait that it’s the most hilarious thing Clemson’s ever did. Apparently their fans called him “whammy” and they wanted him run out of town. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Here is a typical post by a coot maroon (sic). They
cannot stand it lmao.

Mediocre coach since the game, at a minimum, passed him by. Decent recruiter, but bad evaluator of talent ("get you fired 3 stars"). Terrible at in-game adjustments; often seemed lost. Spurrier did little, if anything, to coach D; so, how did he handcuff Whammy (other than maybe bringing in Jon Hoke, since Whammy needed help). As DC, Whammy is at least partially responsible for some bad hires, too, on that side of the ball.

Brad Brownell: Only Larry freaking Shyatt has a WORSE overall winning percentage among Clemson basketball coaches since 1975. Let that sink in. It's Larry Shyatt & then Brad Brownell.

Why would that bug you..these coaches have to have a job
and the coaching community is tight. Ward isn't a Gamecoot
and he will do a good job at Clemson.

Given the unprecedented heights Dabo has reached for Clemson football, he can hire whoever he wants to as far as I'm concerned. Don't you love it when the keyboard warriors know more than the coach who's had us in the top 2 programs over the last 10 years, with 2 national championships.
