This Weitzenhoffer character

May 11, 2016, 1:32 AM

If a somewhat long post about the present comedy of Oklahoma Football does not interest you - Sail on, Captain.

I've been laid up in bed for 8 days with a cold that simply won't leave me alone. Since, I have a lot of time on my hands, I'm gonna spend a few minutes talking about yesterday's article about Big 12 expansion and the laughable opinion an Oklahoma Regent named Weitzenhoffer expressed in it.

Primarily, I am compelled once again to publicly thank the GOOD LORD ABOVE to be blessed a Clemson Tiger! I love to be reminded how fortunate we are here at Clemson. The unity of our school, administration, coaches and team and of our fan-base is rare - a solid and powerful force that has propelled us to the top.

If a Clemson Regent made comments like those made by Oklahoma's Weitzenhoffer, I would be ashamed. He insulted the toughness of his team. What's worse, he revealed divisiveness in the program.

Weitzenhoffer stated - Based on what happened to us in the Orange Bowl, even if we won that [playoff] game, we would not be able to field a team that week. Our quarterback [Baker Mayfield] -- I was on the sidelines -- was totally out of it. Our running backs were finished. I just think a playoff also added another element of risk.

If I'm a Sooner fan (perish the thought), I would be mortified. Weitzenhoffer plain out said that the a**whooping we administered this past New Year's Eve was so bad that OK couldn't have fielded a team 11 days later in the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!

That's Gamecock stupid!

So, the Sooners were physically beaten so badly that he feels honorbound to use that as evidence against Big 12 expansion because the necessary conference championship game would be a great health risk to Oklahoma players, the risk of injury is so obvious that expansion is foolhardy?

WHAT?

Like me, are you reminded a little of the anti-HUNH arguments Bielema and Saban made regarding the risk of injury? Pitiful and misguided whining, to be sure; but, at least, their issue was one directed at NCAA Football as a whole. Weitzenhoffer's defense is against a potential extra game for his team and his conference alone, an extra game already welcomed, played and enjoyed by the other 4 power conferences.

Play that extra game, Sissies! If you don't expand, at least change your name. A Big 12 with 10 teams is pathetic.

Somebody should put a muzzle on this Weitzenhoffer kid. As Don Corleone said to Sonny - What's the matter with you? Never tell anyone outside the Family what you are thinking again.

Or don't, I say. The entertainment value is fantastic.
