Can we get some real talk about running?
Jun 3, 2015, 1:44 PM
|

I would rather receive 10,000 facebook game requests a day than see the incessant running path posts. I get it, you like to trot around at a slow pace and pretend you're doing something athletic. I don't run long distances because while you were being a nerd in high school, I was playing sports and burning up my knees when it actually mattered. No one cares that you ran a 10K, averaged 15 minute miles, and had to have a search party sent on the course to find you. I don't have some sort of monitor that tells you how many laps I swim, because swimming, much like running, is an exercise, not an activity I want to follow on facebook.

even though I know that more modern ways of felling trees, like chainsaws, exist.
I think people would be very interested to know how many trees I chop down, and the average number of chops it takes for me to put one down.
I may start posting this information to impress my fellow lumberjacks, and maybe put a little self-congratulatory sticker on my car window.

Honestly, i'd be more impressed had the person with the 26.1 sticker in their window put a pic of their nekkid wife (if she was hot), or a photo of their 7 figure checking account. THAT'S impressive.

grab a ball is considered an activity, but some like to call that a sport. I assure you, Drew, that high school football you played doesn't ACTUALLY matter either. You are also aware you can choose what peoples information shows up on your feed, or, you know, simply defriending them.
But what a way to be judgmental and criticize those that work for a goal, be it a time, distance or even working on their health.

It's not necessarily the weight. Even when I was in great shape playing soccer, football, and swimming running gave my knees and shins problems. More power to those of you that love to do it, but it ain't for everyone.

When I was much younger, I played outside a whole lot more after school, played three or four sports a year. I was in great shape. As I got older, I stayed inside, was more sedentary, only played golf. Gained a lot of weight. This continued into college as I embraced the sedentary lifestyle more.

Jun 3, 2015, 4:04 PM

how healthy running is? You've argued yourself out of an argument.
There is nothing we're going to say to each other that is going to change anyone's mind about the futility of running, so I answered you with the truth. Aside from JV football practice, I've probably never run longer than 2 miles at a clip because its stupid, and it hurts my legs and knees.
If I wanted to build up my endurance I'd do some cardio stuff like swimming or bicycling, but I don't, so I don't. I stay pretty active on weekends, and don't eat pizza 5 days a week, so I don't have to worry about burning off 5000 calories a day or getting any fatter than I already am. I have low blood pressure and decent cholesterol ,and probably drink too much beer. Give or take 5 pounds, I'm pretty much the same weight I was 20 years ago, (but its certainly not all in the same places.)
Now if you need to have the last word here because, its all yours.

[ in reply to When I started running I was 217 ] |

As the weight came off, the ankle supports got abandoned. And my knees, ankles and hips are all OK. I'm not as flexible as I'd like to be, but that's something I can work on and has little to do with my affinity for running.
Opposite end of the spectrum, there's one guy I know has been in the 160-pound range all his life. He has high blood pressure. He has had multiple ankle surgeries because of the endurance training he does (he insists on doing the Goofy challenge every year. Fool me once, right?)
I think it's just like anything else, there's some predisposition in your genetic make up. And what you eat can greatly affect how your body reacts to stress.

Hell, run 200. Whatever floats your boat.
But start saving now for knee replacement when you're 50, and feeling like you got hit by a car every morning when you get out of bed. If you're thinking that the stresses of running long distances regularly is good for your tendons, ligaments and cartilage, then by all means, over indulge.

I don't care if you "run". I don't care if you run all day, every day for whatever reason you want to run. Just don't tell me about it.
I also don't care about your WOD or your vegan diet. I don't care if you crossfit or chose to only eat grass out of your back yard, but again, I don't want to hear you drone on and on about it.
I swim because I can't run. I do it for exercise. I don't bombard people with my swim talk.

Posting on FB about running is stupid.
Posting on FB about anything else in the world is also stupid.
Being on FB is stupid.
Having a FB account is also stupid.
Drew, getting on FB is the mistake my man. WDF do you think people post about? LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! That's it. If you don't like it, delete it. And then post pigs of the mommietiddies you took yesterday that WE'RE STILL LOOKING FOR!!!!!!!!!

Facebook is for stalking and mocking the ignorant people

in your life, not for actually posting anything yourself. There are days when I'm like "Why the hell do I have this stupid facebook account?"....
Then I catch a facebook fight where the mama is cheatin' on the diddy but somehow it's everyone but the mama's fault cause he's working 3 jobs trying to support her three kids (by different fathers) and her unemployed fatazz, but he ain't spendin' no time with her so cheating is just a cry for attention then the brothers and sisters get involved and make violent threats.....And I realize that it's all worth it.

But I am sure you bombard them with other things about your life which they probably don't truly care about either (you being an extreme liberal comes to mind). I think you are getting to the point that you aren't a fan of a "community" environment. Not all people have the same interests in this world, but that is okay. It is extremely simple to avoid those things you don't like, by either choosing not to care or removing yourself from that situation.

and the number of posts you made yesterday regarding the topic hardly seem casual.
Not judging it, just saying it's interesting what people get pissy over. If I said I banged your woman you'd LOL it, but somebody talks about runners' comments on Facebook and it's "Oh, hell no."

"I get it, you like to trot around at a slow pace and pretend you're doing something athletic."
There's a few people on my feed that make me want to start wearing a go-pro while I weedeat, and start posting my times. "TRAINING TO GET TO 5 MINUTES ON THIS DITCH, TOOK ME 30 AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SUMMER CAUSE MY FATASS WAS TAKING A BEER BREAK HALF WAY THRU NOW LOOK AT ME!!!"

This whole concept of devolving is twisted
Jun 4, 2015, 12:00 PM
|
|
I mean, ya can't really say devolve until you can look at the whole body of work (history). I mean, maybe nature is telling us to get fat because the world is ending and we will be hungry and the skinny cats that run all the time will die first because they fought nature.
