No ... there's a point where the two have to intersect.

Class and business are not mutually exclusive ...
But, honestly, we probably should just replace the nebulous term "class" with a more specific concept called "ethics".

So, are you saying that it is unethical to try to hire a coach away from another school? I assume that it's not hiring a coach away from another school that's the issue, but it's hiring him after such a short time on the job. So, what is the time limit? One year, two years, two months, what?
I have some sensitivity here because I was hired to my current job after only 2 days on another one. That's absolutley not the way I wanted it to go down, but what do you do when your dream job opens up. I'd been up for the job a couple months earlier and they hired someone cheaper. She lasted a couple months and then, they fired not only her, but the guy who hired her. (his wife's best friend, by the way)
Would it have been ethical for my current company not to let me make the choice to change jobs?

It definitely has to do with the short time elapsed since he agreed to take the job at Cal ...
BTW: Were you under contract? Did you break the contract in order to move on so quickly? Did your leaving cause undue hardship on the company you left?
I'm saying that when you sign a contract, it implies a commitment. To immediately decide to void the contract and ignore the commitment because a "better" opportunity arose, poses ethical questions.
How would you have felt if, after only 2 days on your new job, the company's "Dream Employee" came available ... the guy they really wanted when they hired you ... the one they'd been after for a couple of years, but couldn't lure away ... and they showed you the door in favor of him?
If the shoe were on that foot, would it change anything?

More likely he will get a decent raise at aTm but most importantly he is deeply rooted in the state of Texas...don't see him leaving unless he is fired or takes a HC job

Morris has only done one interview.

But to read Tigernet, every time his name gets mentioned along with 10 others in relationship to a job opening, the knee-jerks immediately have him gone.
I'm certain his agent has had a few inquiries though

If your referring to Chad Morris
Dec 9, 2012, 11:30 PM
|
|
I think its pretty clear that Chad Morris wasnt going to be the OC at Clemson until he decides to retire.. He wants to be a HC one day, and who can really blame him for wanting to move up in his career?
If he leaves its not going to be because he doesnt want to be here, it will be because he has earned himself a HC job and a payraise somewhere

I couldn't agree more. All in doesn't really apply to choosing your job. It applies to how you do it when you're there, but not to whether you decide to leave or not. Are you "all in" at your job or do you work there because it pays you fairly, offers you the challenges you need, and you see the potential for further development? Would it be unfair to your employer or unethical for you to consider going to work for another company for a promotion and significant raise?
I was the #2 guy in my area at one company when another company with whom we had a strategic alliance had an opening to be the #1 guy. I got a nice raise, promotion, and a top floor corner office. When I did my exit interview, the guy from human resources asked me why I was leaving and I gave him the facts. His response was that he would make the same move and that he might be sending me a resume next.
BTW, a year later, that company got bought out and everyone moved on. Two years after that, my new company got bought out. As soon as the news was announced, my old CFO was on the phone offering me a job. It's just business.

Both our DC and our OC are mentioned as candidates for the HC position. That both tickles me and scares the #### out of me. I am glad we have such highly regarded coaches, but it puts a moving target on you.
