* We would drop a half-dozen passes in the game opener against Auburn.
* That out defense would be doling out chunk plays like Halloween candy, including several to GTech the week after the Jackets were whipped by MTSU. Oh yeah, that Boyd would toss two INTs to the Jackets in that game.
* That Sammy Watkins would have less than 120 yards and 0 touchdowns at the midway point of our season.
I'm guessing the mood would have been pretty moribund.
Yet, that's exactly what has happened. And we're 5-1, which, honestly is as good as even the more optimistic of us hoped for.
The Tigers go into the off week in good, make that great, shape. And frankly, I cannot see any reason we shouldn't be well-established in the Top 10 in a few weeks, barring injury.
We've found strength in surprising places: a young offensive line, a kicking game that has been nothing but tremendous (aside from 1-2 ill-timed kicks in Tallahassee) and a delightful resiliency in a team that has learned to take body blows, get back up and give better than we've received.
In short, this is a team that plays with heart as much as skill. A team that we can be proud and thankful to standing with.
A team I'm proud to call Clemson.
It's also a team that has earned this week off. Rest up, Tigers, prepare for the road ahead. Hey, if the Almighty rested on the 7th day, why shouldn't we?
It's going to be a wild, thrilling ride from here on out.
Love the post! I agree that we have not even come close to playing our best ball yet. I am going to enjoy the 5-1 record and trust that our coaches and players will keep improving. Enjoy the rest guys and get for the turkeys! GO TIGERS!!!
